Bus wrapped to match the Vette, but instead of the white design on the Vette, do it in chrome. Shine up or polish out the busses trim. That would be an absolute killer look for the bus.

AV engineer in chat. Most TVs come with an IR port on the back, usually in the form of a 3.5mm jack input. This allows you to remote mount an IR receiver on a fly-lead. Those can be bought online for a couple of dollars. It's designed for exactly this scenario, where the built in IR receiver is covered by a surround or obstructed in some way. Awesome work on the bus so far, what a cool way to travel to and from events!

Looking at the manual online. That's a really basic cheap TV, it doesn't seem to have remote IR support. Side note: I have a Sony kd-55x7500f, which is a old by current standards and that doesn't have a remote IR port either. So I don't think it's that common any more.

@@agentcrm Actually a lot of smart TVs these days support a USB IR receiver, so if it has a USB port on the back you can still achieve it with one of those.

If non of these options work, and by a miracle the TV still has a RS232 port, you could get a RS to IR converter, not the best option, but yeah :p

For the TV, I would have made a wall behind the screen and added an articulating wall bracket so you can pull the screen out further and possibly could have a bigger screen. Good job with the cubby!

its a nice idea. although i think the point was to make it look as if the tv and other stuff came with the bus. I was kinda ocd, simular to taylor in a way when floppy drives and compact disc drives were common. if it wasn't flush with the case, it drove me insane. if the color of the floppy and/or optical drive were different color, even minor, i'd paint them. sometimes it just satisfiying with such small details.

Same. Could have made a HDMI panel in the wall and made it where you could service behind the TV better.

Bus life pro tip... I worked out of a Prevost bus and a fifth wheel camper for a few years. Wifi makes life better. Get the remote app for your TV on your phone. Don't count on not losing the old IR remotes. Replace your light switches and power receptacles with wifi smart switches and plugs. Get a wifi router with some range. One that can connect to a phone or mobile hot spot. Remotes are hard to keep track of. Everyone has their phone on them all the time. It's nice to power up the lights, indoor and outdoor, with your phone. It's nice to sit in a lawn chair outside the bus, around a campfire or toolbox, and control everything with your phone. Turn out the indoor lights, turn on the outdoor lights, start up some music, all with your phone. Our bus and camper was mostly controlled by Alexa and the wifi connectivity was not expensive. Controlling your mobile home with your phone or your voice makes everything so much easier. Another tip, a manual transfer case in your dually. You see people flat towing little cars behind buses all the time. We towed our dually which sometimes even had a 16 foot enclosed trailer attached to it. Take a useful tag along vehicle with you. It doesn't have to be a dually but having a useful vehicle with you is nice. Especially 1000 miles from home. Of course, when we rolled out with the bus, we were often gone for months. Remember, your bus isn't just a car hauler. It's plenty nice enough for a vacation trip every now and then. I guess you could just put your BMW in the bus for your vacations. Just making suggestions based on my mobile work life.

With the lit switch, you could wire it so that it would light up when the lights were off and the door was open. That way, if it gets dark, you/others can find the switch. I know it's in the 'unswitched' cabinet, but if you have all the lights off because it's daytime, the lights in there would be off too.
@mckrackin5324
@mckrackin5324 7 ай бұрын
I put lit switches on my golf cart and that's how I did it. They light up when the lights are out. You know, when it's dark and you need help finding the switch. I don't think all lighted switches can do that though. I did it so they wouldn't glare on the windshield at night. Turn on the headlights and the dash goes dark.

I'd set that cubby up with a laptop dock of sorts. Run your HDMI to USB C cable, a charging cable, etc up there, amd then get a multimedia keyboard to keep up there so you can just put your laptop up there for charging and storage or for editing on the main TV if you want.

Get an IR repeater for the tv and mount it lower. They are pretty cheap and low power draw. You could mount the receiver for it anywhere you want. You could use the cubby to mount networking equipment for the bus. If you are going to be traveling often I recommend getting some starlink in the bus. This would let you guys get some work done during the trip and while you are at the track. Awesome build so far. Missed you at LS Fest last year, was hoping to get to see the new rig in person!

The 5 years I spent living in my HR40' you learn to make EVERYTHING quick and easy BC maintaining, driving, setup and teardown is a LOT of work most do not understand until you do. So when I wired all my bay compartments I went with a dusk to dawn photocell switch and never had to flip a switch in the day or night. Enjoying the mods, thanks.

Taylor, your a fab junkie. Pull all that white padding out, and make a super clean, brushed aluminum panel for the whole thing. Would look super clean, and its a good fab project. For the small cubbies, I'd make them smaller boxes, and implant a magnetic holder for the remotes, and perhaps a good place for a set of inductance chargers for phones. Lastly, some of that extra space would be a good place for a starlink receiver (internet), and wifi router.

If it were me, I would put the master light switch the driver's control panel. What is first thing you do? You pull in? If its dark, you flip the switch and go to the outside. Why do you need a switch? Afraid LED lights are gonna drain your battery? I think not. It won't look dumb because it's no different than your car dome light when you open the door. Sometimes I think Taylor is way too anxious and has to be creating a fix for a problem no one else cares about, or would think is a problem.

Solution to the trunk lighting issue: Instead of the main switch, use a daylight sensor. 🙂 The way it is currently set up will drive you crazy sooner or later. You'll eventually need light at the other end of the vehicle for just a minute, but you'll have to switch the main switch.
