With sky-high MSRP's, these discounts mean nothing. So far, this so-called market reset is a nothing burger. Average working-class Americans CAN'T afford these prices. Period. And then there's that pesky little thing known as high interest rates.

Oh, we can't forget that you now need to make an appointment 10 days ahead of time for a simple oil change. My Ford dealer is 2 months out on scheduling actual service on broken down vehicles. Local Chevrolet dealer is 4 weeks out on an oil change. With this glut of cars, trucks & SUV's that aren't selling, where is the F250 Platinum I ordered 2 1/2 YEARS AGO??????????? Ford and the dealer will only tell me the order is still at a code 19, the lowest priority code for orders in their banks.

Used cars with over 50,000 miles and are 3-5 years old are going for almost the same as new. Used cars are about $1,000 - $2,000 less than new. Buying used used to be the way to go, but dealerships know that they can gouge people on used cars now. I've seen used cars with almost 200,000 miles on them and dealerships are asking over $20,000 for them. I look online for sellers that are not dealerships and they are charging just as high a price for their cars.

In 2019 a GMC 1500 Denali average MSRP was around $59k without destination. I read an article that fully loaded one could expect to pay around $65k without a destination. I see the discount and appreciate the point of view that $76k is less than $83k, but in my opinion, it's still way too much. Add on taxes and fees and it's probably right back up to $83k. My point is it's still out of reach for regular consumers like me. Maybe I'm unrealistic and cheap, but I'm not paying another mortgage payment every month for a pickup truck.
@WillieWalnuts

I agree. This is all them trying to scam us. They knew if they jacked up the prices some idiots would pay. They figured worse comes worse they can drop prices 10% and still be way over what they were charging 4 years ago and people will think it's a good deal! I bought a car in 2015 and it's paid off now. I cannot fathom financing a 80k pick up truck when they were selling for 45-50k 4 years ago and they are basically the same car. No leaps in technology or design.

Yep, all of the pickup trucks of today are basically 100% more expensive than they were 4-5 years ago with basically the same designs. I was in the market for a new Honda CR-V or Passport last autumn. After the crapola the local dealerships were trying ($900 pulsing brake lights, $500 nitrogen filled tires, $1000+ paint sealer, etc). I decided to put some money in my 12 year old Pilot and drive it until the wheels fall off. These dealerships can all go hungry for all I care. I kind of feel bad for the rank and file sales person or other employees, but the owners brought this upon themselves. Sooner or later the chickens are going to come home to roost and I hope a few of the most egregious ones go out of business in the next year or so. It would serve them right. Before any dealership employees flame me, I am quite sure your dealership is the only honest one around and you treat your customers with absolute respect. Hopefully it is not your dealership that goes under.

Warned everyone not to buy a car until second quarter of 2024. Car dealerships have to learn that greed means going out of business. Sure enough, dealerships are closing. Loaded trucks cost manufacturers an average of 18-26 grand to produce. They blame tech for the major hike in prices. They are liars. The tech used is simple to create and the lowest price gets the contract. There’s simply no excuse to charge $100 grand or more for the highest end truck out. (In the USA). Dealerships were trying to sell $30K trucks for triple what they’re worth. Their excuses can be debunked by looking at their profit margins from 2021-23. Now that folks are under water on their loans, they have gotten wiser. Ford holds the record for most sales “annually” but they also are the record holders of most repossessions. Their criteria for buying a Ford is so low that anyone with a 550 CC can grab a six figure behemoth with all the goodies. Up to forty percent default and those same trucks are regurgitated over and over increasing the so called “most trucks sold” boasting that’s disingenuous to say the least. Prices are falling and interest rates are too. Keep boycotting the industry as well as the housing market. Today the country has record numbers of upside down loans on houses worth a third of what the buyers paid for. This racquet was carefully comprised to screw the numbers that loan officers are presented with. The mortgage gets made and the owners , everybody that’s bought a home in the last three years is under water. They think that their house equity is through the roof but it’s not. If they bought three years ago then their equity did go up fast but the greedy housing market has outpaced this. In turn all the equity owners think they have will be swallowed up and into a much smaller or less valuable home to which will cripple all when the market resets. Beginning second quarter through 2025. All the equity, the inflated monthly payments, this is when the banks plan to deny refinancing. So the back door out of the mess will be locked up and everyone will be stuck paying triple mortgage on a house that’s devalued. It’s a sneaky shitty scheme the banks are planning. Simply because they will lose more as a whole if everybody refinances for lower rates. They’re willing to gamble that most won’t default entirely and simply grit their teeth and pay. Cars, homes , boycott and slap them all in the face with some economical justice.

When looking into a new vehicle a year or more older, take into account how much the vehicle has depreciated just by existing, and negotiate accordingly. Yes, some dealerships have vehicles that are new from last year, and even the year before that.

They also gave me 50% the nitrogen for the tires, paint protection and window etching. They approved me at an 18% interest rate and I asked what their buy rate was and it was 8%. I told them if they didn’t knock the interest rate down to 17% I was going to walk. Now I’m the proud owner of a new Ram!

Why anyone would give $70,000+ for a domestic pickup truck, or $50,000+ for a Kia/Hyundai is beyond me. The quality of these vehicles does not justify the price. I wouldn't pay half that for what you get. Back in December, I purchased a new 2023 Lexus GX460. I paid under MSRP for the vehicle (sub $60,000). I had been saving since 2018 and timed the market for the new model to launch so I could grab a tried and true outgoing model. For the same price, or in some cases cheaper, I got a durable and reliable Toyota SUV built in arguably the best large-scale plant in the world (Tahara, Japan). There are/were others that got better deals than I did on the same vehicle. Consumers really need to start doing their homework and stop giving up their hard earned money for junk products. These manufacturers need to know we won't buy their cheaply made and poorly designed products. The consumer is now the beta tester for most of these manufacturers, and that won't change until people refuse to give these companies their money.

@@petrosaguilar8916 Agree 100%. I work for a parts supplier in the Midwest. We deal with mostly auto repair shops and dealerships, and carry both OEM replacement parts as well as aftermarket. The amount of issues we are seeing our customers experience on 2018-2023 vehicles is absolutely mind blowing, and it got drastically worse midway through 2020. I know of a handful of owners with GM/Chevrolet/Cadillac SUV's and Trucks that have lost engines under 60k miles. The Ram pickups aren't any better with tons of drivetrain and electrical issues. Fords as well, still plagued by ignition issues they haven't figured out how to fix in two decades, electrical issues, and tons of drivetrain issues on their trucks. Kia and Hyundai, even in their best models, are still throw away vehicles, no different than GM or Dodge passenger cars. The quality of the rubber throughout any of these vehicles leaves you with leaks in just a few short years, requiring major labor costs to fix because of the locations of the failed seals and/or sealants. It's a nightmare. At the height of the pandemic, we had dealerships sourcing from us using cheap Chinese aftermarket parts in place of the OEM parts because OEM wasn't available.. and truthfully, in most cases, the Chinese parts and OEM were not much different in quality. I know for a fact that AC Delco (GM OEM) has much of their line made in China now, and the other manufacturers aren't much better. The only brands I hardly ever sell parts for (aside from oil, filters, and brake pads) is Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Accura, and Mazda.

Really? I would think with "large metro areas" that there's enough people to buy a vehicle, even at inflated prices. In the Atlanta area, for example (5 million people in the metro area), prices are still high and dealers are unwilling to negotiate. Last weekend I was looking at a used Lexus RX 350 and they still wanted $59k out the door. The MSRP for the same vehicle NEW is only $56,845, but NONE of the dealers here will list it at that. After speaking with the guy on the price, I said I wanted to negotiate an out the door price of $55k and he said, "We're a one price shop. That's the price." So he lost a deal over $4k on a USED vehicle.

So far the automobile manufacturers are showing huge profits because they are still producing a mass of vehicles and forcing the dealers to take them. When that bottleneck becomes too great to endure the dealers will not be able to take any more. Then the losses will appear on the car manufacturers earnings and a great recession will ensue. People who have bought new vehicles at recent prices will be completely underwater and trapped in those vehicles for many years and the prices of used vehicles tank with over supply. reposessions and bankruptcies will explode and it will take time for things to normalize. A large number of American jobs are connected to the automobile industry and when it faulters so does the economy. Everyone connected to this industry should prepare now.
