What's cool is seeing how far an ignition coil can throw a spark at atmospheric pressure, versus how short of a distance it can throw that spark in a 10:1 compression engine cylinder where the volume of atmospheric pressure air is compressed 10x smaller and becomes much more dense. I mean, a few hundredths of an inch in a spark plug that is extremely old and worn means the difference between a spark igniting the fuel-air charge, and the coil being unable to ionize the gap and a wet misfire occuring. Very cool. :)
@jonathanpalmer228

if you change the place of the positive and negative terminals quickly edit: set combination of a pattern of relays connected to terminals which makes a number, the pattern goes off at a specific voltage and makes a number by switching between paths at infinitesimal intervals, change the voltage for a new pattern which makes a new number, ps flux with be a problem to consider 👍

I guess, but it's incredibly inefficient compared to just having a tiny piece of slightly radioactive material decay next to a detector. It could also be prone to eventually "settling" into a single path, which would obviously prevent the result from being random.

The right angle patern you see is due to the board’s holes circle shape. Their closest point is in grid patern. If the holes padding was X shaped the spark would travel in a straight line first , then pretty much like in air as the paths heat up.

That is such a great demonstration of how the quickest path to "ground" is not the only path taken - most of the charge is following that path, but there are stochiometric quantum fluctuations triggering other propagation paths - every new conductor that has an electric field induced in it is a candidate for being energised. Also, this is amazingly cool!

Oh ok so after it ionizes the air in one particular path it immediately finds another path where the air has not been ionizes and so forth. Constantly looking fir a new path of keast resistance. It constantly looks for a new path at a frequency that is determined by the speed at which it can find and complete a new path, which varies very slightly hence if you listen very closely you can hear the differemce in the noise of the arking !
@zhopka77
@zhopka77 2 жыл бұрын
Incorrect, because ionized air is actually conductive. If the air was sufficiently ionized, the circuit would be completed and stay on that one circuit, but that's not the case.
@stevenclark2188
@stevenclark2188 2 жыл бұрын
So it's more that superheated air rises so that ionized path lengthens upward until it disconnects or is no longer the pat of least resistance and a new arc forms. This is actually how spark gap transmitters and tesla coils work: charge builds up in the capacitor until the voltage rises high enough to form an arc, then the charge bounces up and down the circuit through the arc forming a high-frequency signal that can be 'sorta' tuned.

I always thought it was the easiest path, not the shortest. Like a meandering river isn’t taking the shortest route but the route of least resistance. Another example the easiest way up a mountain isn’t straight up but zigzagging switch backs.
