Car Turns In Front Of Street Running Train With DPU Running Down Main Street! Huge 2 Mile Long Trains On The CSX Main Line Right In The Middle Of Town. These trains are in LaGrange, Kentucky and are known as street runners. One train was a local railroad switcher that picked up 5 cars in the LaGrange Yard. The 3rd train in this video which was led by locomotive #3253 was filmed by Mrs Tooth! She is starting to get the hang of it! Lol.
Look how long these trains are getting! We stayed 2 nights in LaGrange at a BNB and I saw every train that went through LaGrange for 50 hours. The CSX Short Line, LCL, can go hours without a train and then all of a sudden a few of them can pass. I will have some videos of night time street running trains and maintenance of way trains. It started off slow the first day but then got busy the second day. Best frequencies are 161.370 for road, 161.310 for dispatcher, 452.9375 for EOT and 154.205 for the Oldham County Fire & EMS band. In this video I gave a shout out to Ricky whose birthday is September 29, the day that I posted this.
What do you think about the car that drove in front of the train like it was nothing? Also, what do you think about the 2+ mile long trains? Please leave a comment below.
Filmed in 1080p on September 28 , 2022

I've watched this live stream on VirtualRailFan's YT channel and this is a nice, and different, street POV. It seems like the entire train went through there pretty quietly, too. I'm guessing it's a quiet zone being right in the middle of town. Never ceases to amaze me that you have these daredevil drivers who, impatiently, dart right in front of an oncoming train. I think it would be cool to work in one of the buildings on that street and be able to walk out and watch these mammoths come through. Great video, JT!

If you get hit by a train, you cannot claim that you didn't see it or that it swerved into your lane.

Exactly! For two reasons, one: how can you not see something that big? And two: trains can’t swerve into your lane because they can only go where the rails take them

There is actually several reason why they move slow. One being if you have dragging equipment (tie down straps for instance) you dont want it to be flying around and hit someone. Second they might be able to pick up some speed once they have the last crossing occupied. Third, posted track speed and forth slow orders due to maint conditions.

Hey Mrs. Tooth - good job on your videoing! JT - super videos! We like the way you aren't always talking as the trains are running by. You point out a few interesting things and then let us enjoy the video. Afterwards you tell us some more interesting things about the town, etc. Glad the two of you were able to be there together. We had a street running train in the town I grew up in out in Northern California. It was just a local that ran north a few miles to pick up mainly lumber. My dad had that run for a lot of years. Occasionally some one would park partly on the tracks and you know it's really hard to stop a train quick, so he managed over the years to push a few vehicles out of the way! Have a great day!

That rail line was built in the 1800s when everyone moved at a snails pace and got around in horse and buggy. This is 21st century time. Nobody has time waiting for a 2 mile long train these days. If CSX got smart they'd reroute the line outside of town where they could move at higher speed and not worry about mainstreet traffic through a small town like La Grange . 🤷
@carolmcallister1908
@carolmcallister1908 Жыл бұрын
You can't afford to relocate train tracks. It would cost too much to get the land and build. The town grew up around the tracks as most do. If the railroad was not there then there would not be a town.

Hello from the UK. I love the sights of La Grange, another really good video. BTW, at the end you filmed that CSX road truck that runs on rails. You also posted a short with that truck going the other way and pulling the freight wagons and asked whether it was a train or a truck. That very same thing was caught in the Virtual Railfan Camera and published in the Grab Bag on 27th Sep titled BOING! BOX TRUCK DOES A NUMBER ON A CROSSING GATE AND A GUY ALMOST GETS CROWNED BY ONE! 9/26&27/22. If you go to 16:52 on that Grab Bag, you can see where you made your video short. If you stare at the 15 MPH sign and the first white car after the crossroad, you can just make out a figure in the shadows, it absolutely must be you. Do give it a try. You really have to stare to see it.

Imagine you have an important meeting scheduled on the other side of town and that rubbles through just as you get to the tracks. Do you hang on and be late or do you make a run for it? As a Brit I find it strange that American trains as long as that can rumble through the middle of the town with the disturbance that they cause . You would have thought that footbridge or an underpass could be constructed to allow free passage when a train runs by. Great video son

After being sick for the last few days..this was a pleasant watch on the big screen. I really love these street trains and when you catch the townscape with it as with the first train, it's surreal and pretty. This was soothing to watch as a rail fan. I just wish you had done it with the last train also..lol Not criticizing, just giving positive feedback J.T. Warmest regards..

Just noticed the engine number of the lead unit on the 1sr train indicated that it was one of only a handful of very high adhesion locomotives on CSX with a rated tractive effort of. 36,000 lbs. per axle (which would obviously give them a starting TE of 216,000 lbs., were they not limited by software to a maximum of 200,000 STE)! Good catch all the way around JT!

JT:Another excellent video. I simply can't believe how arrogantly stupid the driver who drove in front of the rain. Had he been 45 seconds later he'd have been a major casualty, caused severe trauma to crew, his own family, you name it. I had a direct report in the past who became an EMT and passed on many horror stories. They need a camera at each cross street which takes pix of each offense and that sends the driver a $250 ticket.

Hi Jaw Tooth, I'm from the UK but have been to KY (Erlanger) and winessed this sort of stuff. My question is, were the towns built around the railroad, or were the railroads built hrough the towns, in other words, which came first? Couldn't happen over here, most of our lines are electrified with a third rail
@lindaterrell5535
@lindaterrell5535 Жыл бұрын
In the east, towns were often first. The RR often led the way out west, however. There were special deals for immigrants to come and settle on either side of the tracks. The RR usually owned a chunk,of land on either side of their tracks. Having people come out and settle on either side, build up and use the RR for sending and deliveries was win-win for all. It’s how much of the West was “won”.
@lindaterrell5535
@lindaterrell5535 Жыл бұрын
@@EllieMaes-Grandad Indeed. And when RR failed it was catastrophic. The Black Hills gold rush was dukes in large part because of the RR failure of 1873. Put the country into a depression. But then there was nothing to fall back on, except family and they were broke too. So they headed west. Often by RR. Then there was another crash in 1879. If the RR had continued on, up into Canada as planned, the would have opened that part of Canada into becoming part of the US. The provinces out there were tired of being ignored by Ottawa and would have joined thenUS. Canada stopped that by forming the RCMP, which established federal presence in the western provinces. Could have even started a war of rabid negotiation. But our RR failed again and so we pulled,back. Gawd, I love connections.

I watch Virtual Railfan and that stuff happens all the time in La Grange. It's cool seeing it up close and personal. I wonder how many times the engineers wish they could just slam it into run 8 and pound 'em. Just a few Uncle Joes on that train but the DPU was a bonus. I'm o.k. with the different perspective, it works! Absolutely first rate, thanks!

@@jetx_47 there are 6 scheduled SB trains a day thru La Grange. 3 are auto racks headed for Louisville. M205 from Worcester MA 209 from Walbridge OH M217 from Philadelphia PA. One intermodal I141 from Cincinnati OH to Atlanta GA. And 2 manifests M573 and M575.both from Cincinnati to Nashville. TN. . NB IS more variable. There are 6 possibilities but only one or two go through La Grange.
