You can get a pocket shield sleeve for each of your key FOB units. You can also get a small metal box, or use any type of metal container for storage of your key FOB units. When outside you can reduce the range of your key FOB by leaving it in the shield sleeve. You would have to go right up next to the car to use it. If you want to be fanatic with the FOB unit remove the battery. Use the inserted key to get in to the vehicle. Use the process to start the vehicle as like when the FOB battery is dead. Check the user manual about how to enter and start your vehicle when the FOB battery is dead.

It would be easier for manufacturers to add an on/off switch to the fob or stop it from 24/7 transmitting. For now, you can probably just pull the battery

That explains why many car owners still use a steering wheel lock. Those, usually yellow, steering immobilizers. Thieves may unlock it but not take away the vehicle

Uh what ? Steering wheels bend easily (to prevent injury....). 1 solid kick to the wheel, it's bent, steering wheel lock can be removed while locked.

This may be one of the reasons why you get some sort of a discount for keeping a vehicle in a garage. It would make it harder for someone to just walk up to it with some device and open the doors or start it and drive it away. Some garage doors have physical locks that slide into holes in the track that would make opening the door nearly impossible. That is because even if they somehow managed to repeat the remote control signal it still couldn't open. One more thing I can do is cut power to the garage at the breaker (at the flip of a switch) and the garage door openers can't possibly work then. Now about those sliding locks, they are separate from the red handle used to open the door when the power is out and they do take considerable force to pull. If those locks are used the door is impossible to open. They are strong enough to damage the gears in the openers if you forgot that you slid the locks too so keep that in mind. Those locks work well to prevent someone from fishing a wire to the red emergency handle. It is only an emergency handle because you can use it to open the door even if the power is out, allowing you to drive your vehicle in an emergency situation. They are NOT INTENDED to prevent injuries from the door if it closes on someone (most doors will automatically stop and open if this somehow happens).

Doesn't a keyfob have to be constantly transmitting for this to be possible? Why would a keyfob need to be transponding when not actively being used? Either way, this is a problem manufacturers can easily solve.

No to rain on your parade but I highly doubt a metal box will work. For anything to work, it has to be made with the intention of blocking a wireless signal (or at least attenuating the signal so much that it can't be picked up from a certain distance. DO NOT rely on foil or metal boxes on their own. The last thing you need is a false sense of security from thinking such a generic signal blocker is all you need. It is just naive!!

This sounds like Misinformation. I think they can only "capture" your signal when your Key Fob is in USE not just sitting on the counter. The Thieves get near you at the Super Market Parking Lot, You open your car with the Key Fob, they Capture your Signal, follow you home, then come back later when you are asleep.
@calebbrook13484 жыл бұрын
MsThylacine that’s a bit more methodical but still a possibility
@harold-miller3 жыл бұрын
A proximity type key fob will always emit a radio frequency which is registered by the vehicle if you're close enough to it. If it picks up the unique signal from the key, the doors unlock by simply touching the door handle. Thieves know which cars have this functionality and target these homes. They'll walk up with a hidden antenna, wait for the antenna to capture the signal from the proximity key fob, and then boost the signal so that the car thinks the key is nearby. From that point, the thief simply touches the door handle and voila, instantly in the vehicle.
@drb2k5802 жыл бұрын
It’s not misinformation. Newer cars have keyless entry that works off proximity. You don’t have to push the buttons to arm/disarm. You just have to be near the car. Some cars allow you to disable this feature but most people use it as a convenience. It is nice but it opens you up to relay attacks. They copy the RF that is constantly being emitted and then resend it next to the car which makes the car think you are standing there with the fob and allows them to open the door and start the car without the fob. That’s why you will see videos of thieves walking around outside of houses with large antennas on the relay. They are looking for the RF signal of the fob sitting inside the house.
@TraceguyRune2 жыл бұрын
@@drb2k580 That keyless entry proximity needs to be initiated by touching the handle and has a range no larger than the car. You'd need to be within 2 feet of the car for it to work.
@drb2k5802 жыл бұрын
@@TraceguyRune they can transmit up to 6 feet on some models. The way relay attacks work is the thieves receive and amplify the signal from the key fob inside the house then send it to a receiver who is within range of the car and touching the handle and it acts as though the person has the key fob within range.

Basically if man builds it another man can unbuild it, if a new design comes out, and there's a device available for business purposes such as a lock smith, then that device should only be available for Lock Smith's, and it should be regulated just like the silencer for a gun which you have to apply for one through the Fed's then it'll be a paper trail of who owns one.. but nooo all you have to do is go online and buy one . So basically putting our electronics in a metal box or a big asz ball of aluminum foil and the signal is untraceable?? Hum so with the alarms merchandise at stores too?? First of all, I drive a car with start button; which means, you can't even start a car without a key being physically in the car, near you; you can't drive at all if a key is not with you! Now, I am speaking about start button technique in the cars, not every car has that feature
@Rock_Reggae_Riff3 жыл бұрын
Push button cars use proximity keys. if they can open the door, they can drive off with it. The BCM or immobilizer sends a challenge password or key to the FOB when you push a button on it, or by pushing the start button. The proximity fob replies, and you can unlock/start the vehicle. For factory security systems, the password never changes. Advanced aftermarket alarms have passkeys that always change, and the same code can never be used more than once.

no the signal gets airborne when the owner of the car presses the unlock button, when that happens they fob sends a code to the cars ecm to unlock it, that same code that is airborne gets intercepted . then with a computer software program you decrypt the signal code and recode it into another key fob then you steal tha car. your welcome. Remotes and keyfobs should have an on/off switch. I know some lazy people will cry, bitch and moan but TOO BAD!
@TraceguyRune2 жыл бұрын
Who's going to cry? It's a brilliant idea. I tried to do it myself, but the key fob was so tightly packed on the inside I couldn't do it without making it look sloppy, so I gave up. It's very easy concept though if you want to do it home made. You just need a mini on/off switch and maybe 2 tiny 22 AWG wires. Key fobs are powered by little 3v watch batteries, so nothing fancy is needed. You put the switch between the battery and the grounding on the fob and you could control whether the circuit is open or closed.
@TraceguyRune2 жыл бұрын
As a tip, I recommend buying a blank fob on ebay for your car so if you need to cut or drill holes for your circuitry, you won't ruin the original fob
