We are adding a third way we plan to travel using Jim's new car and we will need new strategies for doing meals on the road. We show the equipment we plan to use to keep food cold, to heat up meals in the car, and show two examples of meals we plan to use.

I watched an Amish family noshing on delicious treats, all neatly packed into a Samsonite Toiletry/Vanity Make-up case. I was so fascinated as these tiny plastic containers appeared, filled with nuts, crackers, sliced cheese, malted milk balls, Teddy Grahams, Cheese its, fruit cups, peanut butter, random cookies and who knows what else. The man nodded to me and smiled as I watch, eating my fig newtons. It changed everything. My thoughts on road trips, day tripping, nature walks... Why couldn't we posh, nosh on the go. I grabbed a partitioned small tackle box and made it my Snackle Box! I found a good sized decorative box at Dollar General for $5, in that I tucked a tiny cutting board, cutlery, napkins, salt and pepper, as well as some small plates. I tossed in my Coleman cook mug and a small multi fuel, stackable stove in a sack. A pour over coffee maker and some fresh coffee in a jar, sugar, tea bags and powdered creamer. Love the idea of a small fridge, as I drive back and forth between West Virginia and Rhode Island, often.

🧼 Washing dishes on the go. A tip I learned from my favorite Aunt Dorothy who sold Tupperware in the 1950s & 60s and took her children on many camping/fishing car trips all across America. After breakfast or lunch she would half fill her huge Tupperware bowl with soapy water, put the dirty dishes in, seal the lid then place the bowl in the back of the station wagon. The motion of the car caused the water to slosh around and “wash” the dishes. When they reached their next destination the kids only had to rinse the dishes. I have a Tupperware bowl that was my car/hotel/camper sink for over 30 years. Two years ago I traded it in for the new 26 cup Tupperware bowl that has straight sides. It takes up less room and is deeper. It fits perfectly in one of those delivery meals zip bag with a small bottle of dish soap, a roll of paper towels, a kitchen towel and a small flannel backed plastic tablecloth. Something similar may work for you on your future car trips. I am so excited for your new adventures.

Recent camping trip we packed jar salads, just dump and go. We also packed a jar with pho soup/cookedmeat without the water. All we needed to cook was boiling water. Why not use freeze dried meals? Add water and heat up in your travel oven. For all meals we used a large paper bowl, toss in trash when done, no dishes. I stored the used glass jars back in the cooler and when I got home they went right into the dishwasher. Our meals were stress free!

This is a great video! I always pack lots of food and healthy snacks for road trips. It’s fun to plan meals and snacks for different trips. Sometimes I pre cook taco meat, and prep all the fixings. It’s an easy, satisfying meal for both my husband and I. The only challenge I always run into is keeping the coffee in the thermos hot for many hours. Sometimes we can’t find good coffee on the road 😅.

Have you figured out the power requirements of the oven to the capacity of the Bluetti? Also we have one of those refrigerator/freezers. Suggestion, Plug it in the night before at the house and get it as cold as possible before you leave. It takes these units some time to cool, so starting it off very cold from the house 110V will save you power draw on the battery of the car.

Hi Pam and Jim, have to let you know your dinner roll recipie makes the best travel sandwiches! They require a toothpick bc my husband really packs a sandwich, but we love the portion size and he can drive and eat his 1/2 sandwich or eat multipules when we take a break at a rest stop. We can pack cheese cubes, cutie oranges, or other seasonal fruit, veggie sticks with salad dressing already on them..we can go for 5-14 hrs with just quick stops to use the Lu. Drinks are in travel cups with lids, water, gatoraide, ginger beer(ale), etc. Can't wait for more of your adventures!

I have a fridge similar to that one and I have used it for business travel as I don't go out to restaurants every day to eat. Works great. I also have a pot and hot plate for in the room. The 2nd reason I got it is for my husbands medicine that needs to be refrigerated. It doesn't use a lot of power and worked during the deep freeze here in Texas in 2021. It will work great if there are summer power outages as well.

I have celiac and have been gluten-free and dairy-free for 36 years. I take my food wherever I go. I love the Thermos brand 2 or 3 cup stainless steel thermoses. The 2 cup has a folding spoon in the lid. It's easy to preheat with boiling water either on a camp stove or in a microwave at a hotel. Preheat the thermos. Then heat the soup and pour it in. They stay hot for 8+ hours. It's easy to do that at breakfast time and have it ready for lunch. Last weekend my husband was with some family members ATVing. Along with the rest of his food, I had hot soup. (It was a cold day.). Another thing that I do is I have a very small 3-day cooler. I can put frozen food in it with dry ice and it will stay frozen for days. It's fun seeing what you are doing for travel. I always have to take my food everywhere as I react to many of the junk food ingredients in gluten-free foods so I'm always looking for ideas. All eight members of our family are gluten-free. Everyone has there own thermos.

We did a road trip from MI to FL in late September, early October. We packed freeze dried meals, and frozen meals. We purchased a lifetime cooler, like a yeti but 1/4 th the price for the size...but warning these are heavy coolers, even empty. Because it was so close to hurricane Ian, we even had to pack 12 gallons for cooking and drinking. So glad that I checked with the owner of the airbnb about water. He said that the city well had be compromised and they were still boiling water. Great trip, with healthy food.

I use a 12v tea kettle and a 12 v Hot Logic and a mini USB pod coffee maker (or pour over or instant). With hot water and the Hot Logic you can cook most things, especially if using freeze dried or dehydrated foods. We use a cooler and wrap it in blankets. McDonald's has good sized bags of ice for $1. If we stay in motels we get ice from their machine and fill zip 2 gallon bags. We like the mini packets of boiled eggs, pickles and olives for quick snacks.

This may not be quite the direction you're going with this, but we've really gone back to road trips. It was something we did when I was growing up and have fond memories so we just readopted the practice. Back then, we didn't eat in a lot of restaurants, Mostly because we were kids and dad didn't want to stop every three hours. So mom packed food. One of my favorite tricks is to pick up a protein box from Starbucks, Keep it in my travel case which is semi insulated so it keeps it cool. Since I'm my mother's daughter, I keep the containers and re- use them..making my own protein boxes. They seem to be just the right size and they're very healthy. Pacific northwest? I grew up in Bend.

We have a good sized motor home, and I have always taken food to cook, but we usually ended up eating out! In February we’re going to Florida for four weeks, I have my new freeze dryer and am doing meals that we can just add hot water to and eat. Soups and stews mostly. I also have some canned chicken and meats now as well that I will take. We will probably still eat out a few meals but it will be healthier for us to eat our own food! Good luck with your trips and can’t wait to see how it goes. I plan on being home in March to start my outside garden and get some flower and vegetable seeds starting going in greenhouse. We have a big greenhouse and have had fresh veggies this winter. . All these fun things we can do when we’re retired. I hope our health and yours holds out so we can ck continue to have fun !

Showed this to the hubby who loves it as well and said "we need one of those" He also said that could be a great at home warmer if the grid goes down and we are too lazy to use some of our other options. How I asked. Well we have that great brand new marine battery it will be nothing to hook that warmer/oven to it and just cook/heat on the counter. Got to just love a man who is a thinker. Indeed! We used a car fridge many years ago. So much easier than ice and ice chest. It eventually quit so I'm back to ice chest but my trips are mostly 1 long 10 to 11 hour travel day and the same trip back home with a stay of 4 days to 2 weeks in between. This time I packed Taco soup in 2 half gallon jars, leaving a good gead space for elevation change, in my ice chest. Makes a great microwavable lunch for the 3 of us for the 3 to 4 days we are here. I brought a box of crackers to go with the soup, a loaf of banana bread and some banana nut muffins for breakfasts ( both banana flavored but so different), and a batch of brownies for dessert. We are eating 1 meal a day out. We are at a house. I could cook but don't want to spend the time doing it or the cleanup. It's a break from the norm, makes it a vacation of sorts even though we are taking care of some business. The glass mason jars handled the soup perfectly in the ice chest. I put water bottles between as a cushion.

I don't know if it is only myself, but I cannot see any of the products offered. All I can see are the headings.

Some others have also mentioned that while most people are able to see them. You can check your privacy settings and ad settings--some people say that is the problem.

Question: did you happen to put one of your handicap monitors inside the “oven“ to see to what temperature it registers?
@trailgrazers3690

Yes, it got up to 165°F, which is plenty hot for warming up food.

Does the plastic hold up to the heat? Wouild it leach into the food? I have one of the mini lunch boxes that can be plugged into the car to heat food in our BOB, but we also take on road trips! Saves money!

We just did a little trip and used them and they did fine. They were quite hot when done, but still in find shape.

Thanks Pam & Jim! My wife and I do 1-3 day car trips often, so I found this informative. I 'm going to mention again that I am unable to see your Amazon store. I've tried on two different laptops and three different browsers as well as mt iPhone. I can see all my other YT subscriptions Amazon stores, just not yours. Is it just me, or are others having trouble too? Is it searchable on the Amazon site? I have been unsuccessful in my approach. Instead of reposting the items from Amazon on your web site, can we get the link to your Amazon Store on the Amazon site?

That is crazy. Most people can see the items, but there are a few others who cant. We have been advised it may have to do with privacy settings or settings having to do with ads.

Oh my...I haven’t thought about cooking or warming food on the truck motor for years. Our large family loved to camp and travel with our truck and camper but some meat meals required a larger oven then we had in the camper. I would put a meal together and wrap it in foil and my husband would place it on a flat spot on top of the motor. We would check it when we stopped for gas. We had read about that little trick in Trailer Life magazine. 😊
