Was the final song at my dads funeral as we carried him out. For the first few years after I couldn’t listen to it but now I’ve come to terms with how much my dad loved this song and his Irish heritage. Now I listen with emotion still but memories of my dad. Love you dad

I grew up in North East England but my Scottish Granny loved this song. She died a year ago today from covid. Right now I'm sitting on my roof thinking of her. This song was played at her funeral and it makes me cry everytime. See you next year, love you always Granny. ~15.10.22

One day we all must take that final backward glance towards that mansion of human life. As we walk away towards the unknown darkness, we see the lights are bright & there is the lively sound of chatter, music & laughter.....only our time there has come to an end.

Heard this on the radio last night when in the kitchen cooking, and it just stopped me in my tracks. The most beautiful song ever, sung so beautifully in a manner that makes your heart skip a beat as it recalls times past.

A song that brings me to a place I could call me spiritual home. I find consolation in this song. Her rendition is beautiful needless to say. Cara has a unique voice.

The best version of this song I've heard. Truly beautiful
Came back for another listen. Parting Glass is often done to a marching rhythm with drums, etc, perhaps to soften the melancholy, but Cara doesn't shy away from the sadness and leave taking. "Good night and joy..."

In January 2019 when I found out that my my favorite aunt was diagnosed with cancer and metastasis, this song helped me live my pain from her process which only lasted a month and a half before she died. And despite the time, whenever I listen to this song I break into a thousand pieces.

Every time I've heard Cara sing this live it reduces me to blubbing tears. How she can sing it like this without cracking up herself is a mystery to me.

She can do this as she hasn't lived your life. Whatever in your life has moved you to tears I can sympathise as I can't hear this without tearing up.

Good question. Perhaps it overwhelmed her at first, and she had to work through it before singing it in public? It does require some emotional detachment, as singers don't have the luxury of weeping in the middle of their songs. I don't know that I could ever sing this one as it cuts so deep.

Seen her a few times now, and when I die I expect to see and hear her again - surely she's an angel come to visit us awhile. The heavenly host won't be complete without her beautiful Irish lilt.

"Forever In Your Debt" With thanks to those who blew the wind, And those who sailed the ship, We sailed it tight against the tide, And I shall be forever in your debt. -------------------------------------------------------- The Parting Glass All the money that e'er I had I spent it in good company And all the harm I've ever done Alas, it was to none but me And all I've done for want of wit To memory now, I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be to you all! Fill to me the parting glass And drink a health whate'er befalls Then gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all! Of all the comrades that e'er I had They're sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that e'er I had They'd wish me one more day to stay. Since it fell into my lot that I should rise, and you should not I'll gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all! But since it fell into my lot That I should rise and you should not I'll gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all! So fill to me the parting glass And drink a health whate'er befalls Then gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all!
