Carbon Based Lifeforms (CBL) are Johannes Hedberg and Daniel Vadestrid , both born in 1976 and based in Göteborg, south¬west Sweden. They met when both 15 and are still, amazingly, working happily together, over 25 years later. CBL itself was formed in 1996, as an offshoot from other projects, but it soon became their focal point, culminating in their first release on ‘mp3.com’ in 1998. The duo signed with the celebrated Lyon¬ based ‘Ultimae’ label in 2002 and went independent in 2014 To date they have released six official, full length albums and is one of the biggest names in their genre.
CBL aim to combine earth and space in their music. Using the combination of nature and technology as the main inspiration for their work, they like to represent both the positive and negative effects that this collaboration can lead to.
CBL are frequently present among the headliners of the biggest Psytrance festivals across Europe and have done many shows in Russia and even USA and Australia.

On January 1, 2023, my daughter Águeda was born. At the moment of her birth, I had prepared a speaker in the delivery room where I had been playing a playlist of CBL/Solar Fields, and had the control ready to play this particular piece of music (Loss Aversion) at the exact moment of her arrival. This was a carefully considered and deliberate decision. When I first heard this track, its sounds gave me the impression that it spoke of the creation of human life, not of a prosaic psychological characteristic, at a time when both my wife and I believed we would not have children. I write this comment after holding my now six-month-old baby girl in my arms and letting her listen to this music (again), which now holds a deep and indelible meaning in my life due to its extreme beauty and simplicity. Thank you, Carbon Based Lifeforms. Thank you.

Today I had a dream that I was on acid (I have not used psychedelics for many years - my psyche is too sensitive for it), and in this dream I choose this track as a soundtrack on my headphones. I didn’t hear it in the trips in reality - but, God, how beautiful and incredibly deep it was in this dream! I really love your music for the fact that it allows you to touch the distant and deep states of consciousness even without the use of any substances. This is real psychedelic art, it seems to me. Thank you for that.

I've had Derelicts in my car CD player since the album launched. While I love albums like Interloper, hydroponic garden, and stochastic. Derelicts just hits different. When you're frying this song pulls you out of dark places before leading you into deep contemplation as everwave begins. Sublime.

CBL lets me know that my wife is still with me. She's waiting for me, and CBL reminds me of that. It's only been three months, but I'll join her soon. I didn't know the meaning of "Loss aversion" until I looked it up, recently. It's the tendency to prefer avoiding losses to acquiring equivalent gains. I didn't know the word, but I know the concept very well. I heard it once as a teenager, but I will forever rembember it because even at the time, I recognized how it fundamentally shape our species and as such, our society. Maybe that explains the deep melancholy that this song makes me feel. There's the potential for SO MUCH beauty in this world, yet it feels like we must always play safe. What's the point of it all if we can't commit to things we love?
