Hi Everest, First I would like to thank you for all of your videos. You have been the only person on KZfaq with consistently accurate info on indoor hydroponics. I have a bit of experience and went through all your videos to see how your content compares to my personal experience and this is literally the only thing I have found questionable. So I've never seen plants turn yellow with co2 enrichment at night. It was my understanding that the stomata close off and do not absorb co2 with lights off so it would be wasteful to use it. Can you explain how you reached this conclusion or cite your source so I can look into it further? I would like to implement this if there has been decent research behind it. Thanks and keep up the awesome content! If you ever need ideas or someone to bounce them off feel free to contact me. Austen
@Just4Growers
@Just4Growers 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Austen, thanks for your feedback. To clarify on the CO2, as you state, plants use oxygen at night and emit CO2. CO2 enrichment at night is not necessary. My guidance is to stop CO2 enrichment an hour before lights out and then to dump / extract away all the room’s air and replace with fresh air at the start of the dark cycle. I’m struggling to find supporting references in scientific literature - just my time in British Columbia, Canada working with growers using sealed rooms. It could be, given the location, that the action of reducing humidity levels at night also came into play as plants continue to transpire (just less) at night - For my part I’ll look deeper into this for a 102 - always happy and eager to discuss with fellow growers. Feel free to email or reach out over Insta / or continue to discuss right here! Thanks again for taking the time. ✌️

One has to wonder: back 450,000,000 years when the CO2 level was 7000 ppm, who turned on the exhaust fan when the lights went off. Seriously though, in nature the CO2 level during the day would be the same or less than at night, wouldn't it?

@ryanwilson5936
@ryanwilson5936 5 жыл бұрын
Rick Reid Yes. Co2 levels would be relatively the same at night. However, the point of supplementing co2 is to add more than the plant can consume ensuring that they can consume as much as they possibly can outside of what nature can provide. The same reason we create fertilizer regiments and use 18/6 lighting schedules. To provide as many supplements (more than nature can provide) that the plant can consume before reaching the peak of too much (or too little for that matter, ).

@ 4:30 you would benefit from putting a sheet of plastic around the base of the 'Net Frame' (whatever you call it) to confine the falling CO2 with the Plants (for a few minutes longer, before it spills out or is wafted away). Only a _tiny_ improvement, but only a _tiny_ cost and effort; IF you have excessive amounts of Reflective Plastic you _could_ use that, but the benefits of the more expensive plastic vs. the few Photons it would redirect at that distance is far less than the benefit of the cheaper clear plastic (and it's durability) in the _particular_ situation shown in that particular Setup at 4:30. Usually you will want the Room 'sealed' and let the hot air _float_ over a Partition to an adjoining Room where the AIR only is vented, the HEAVY CO2 remains _trapped_ (mostly) in the first Room (since it is too heavy to float over the Partition). A CO2 Meter in the 'Air only Room' shows how much CO2 you are wasting by letting it spill over into the 'Air only Room' from the 'Plant Grow Room'. You can still do other things in the 'Air only Room', even grow, just with minimal CO2. Gotta be BOTH cheap AND generous with the CO2, anyway you can do both at the same time is a BONUS, otherwise just waste SOME (small) amount of CO2 since its cheaper than more Lights (which are barely efficient if the CO2 is at normal levels. DO NOT Vent for the first hour or two (watch out for the Temperature) to maximize CO2 saturation while the Room is cold (from the Lights being off at _night_). IF you're breading for Seeds (or course you are) then don't be afraid to get CO2 up to 2K in a HOT and OVERLIT Room, as that _tells_ the next generation that LOTS of CO2 is available (and to go all Prehistoric on you). First few generations should be slick, shiny, rubbery, thick Leaves; that means you're punishing the Plants with CO2, subsequent generations will show less of those effects as the Plants adapt to brutal conditions (and grow like Weeds). Great Video, again. Like shoving your Lights as close as possible on a LightRail you need to drown in CO2 as best you can, you ALSO NEED Plants that can take it. Adding a bit of Sucrose or Iron-rich Molasses to your water helps too (and is both less effective and less expensive).

@aarongriffin4764
@aarongriffin4764 8 жыл бұрын
There are digital timers you can get if you want to time it in 15 minute cycles. I think if you use CO2 in a tent you don't need ventilation though. So you just have a CO2 ppm monitor to keep it at your desired level, then an AC unit with a temperature sensor to keep the temp at your desired level. And you don't use exaust.
@NoCommitmentClothing
@NoCommitmentClothing 8 жыл бұрын
So run ducting out of tent on both ends of the air cooled ducting for lights, Seal off everything else and wire airlines into tent or place co2 tank. 2 different vent systems for the lights and there you go, As long as you got air cooled lights

How can you vent out in a SEALED grow room?
@Just4Growers
@Just4Growers 8 жыл бұрын
+Evis Daison Good question Evis! A "sealed" grow room is a bit of a misnomer for sure. You always need means of exhausting the CO2 rich air prior to the night cycle and bringing in fresh air, even in a "sealed" room. But during the daytime no air comes in and no air is exhausted from the garden. CO2 levels are supplemented with a tank or generator and heat and humidity are managed via an AC and dehumidifier. The trick with the exhaust and input (which is used only once a day to dump the grow room's air before lights out) is to use a backdraft damper to seal the holes when not in use. I hope that helps to clarify. I'll be covering the practical issues in upcoming vids with my new room that's coming up :)

+Rob Espino Tricky--but made easier if you use air cooled hoods which are vented separately. Then you can run your garden's ventilation on cycles and disperse CO2 during its off cycle, all the while heat is still being removed from your air-cooled hoods.

Hello Everest, Great information as usual. I subscribed and am watching your videos at 3 AM. So... The propane burners obviously create CO2 in your grow room. My understanding is that they also must create carbon monoxide which is toxic. If they create, say 1500 ppm CO2, they must create also some high doses of carbon monoxide. Or... am I missing something?
@Just4Growers
@Just4Growers 7 жыл бұрын
+Olga Ousherovitch This is a fairly common question over the years. The answer is the blue flame in the CO2 Generator vs. a yellow flame. The blue flame (which is what we achieve using a specific orifice size in the brass burners) provides relatively clean CO2 to the grow area. There are other gases output, however normally they are in very small amounts not perceptible to plants or humans. The yellow flame on the other hand is a sign of Carbon Monoxide output, as well as other unpleasant gases. This will occasionally show up, however this is usually because of a poor or tainted fuel source. If you are seeing yellow flames in the CO2 Generator you should discontinue use immediately, ventilate the area, go outside, and contact the manufacturer and send the CO2 Generator in for servicing and cleaning to fix the problem. I hope this information helps you out!

Another great video, as always! I do wonder though, ideal CO2 levels would depend on the amount of micromoles the plants are receiving, right? Are there instances in which CO2 does not aid in photosynthesis because the plants aren't receiving enough light? If so, do you have an idea of where this threshold lies?
@Just4Growers
@Just4Growers 6 жыл бұрын
+Vladimir Shagoyan CO2 levels will invariably be the bottleneck in an otherwise optimized environment. When you go above 800 umol you definitely put more pressure on this "weakest link" as - you are correct in saying - photosynthesis is intrinsically tied to CO2 and light intensity.

Hm interesting info Everest! I heard from MANY people (local grow stores and just about everyone with a opinion on the internet) that the water yeast and sugar method doesnt work at all, or in better terms it doesnt create enough co2 to supply a room... Is there any truth to that Everest? Or have I been tricked and spent a ton of money that would have been better used somewhere else! Also another method I've thought about that isnt too safe but would work is candles around the grow room correct? Not the safest but candles do produce a ton of co2 from my experience and are DIRT, DIRT, DIRT, cheap. Not that I'm advising anyone to use a open flame that isnt properly contained lol. NEED YOUR WISE WORDS EVEREST!

But I've bought the pads and tried the yeast/sugar mix and placed both directly in front of my meter and neither of them moved the total by more than a few points, and I honestly think that was due to my accidental exhale. Which is actually a great and free way to introduce quite a bit of Co2 into your room; just hang out in there and breathe. I get a couple hundred extra ppms at the end of my daily maintenance... And it does make a difference.

yet to have co2 enrichmentment add any bennefit that i didnt have to pay for with gear and gasses. waste of time, yes i got slight increase, but with costs of gas i paid for it dollar for dollar, if not more since a oz only costs me 15 to grow, id need many oz more to pay off and be worth it, and it doesnt.

That's right, plants thrived back in the day with CO2 levels of 7000ppm. Of course back then the world was vented at night so the plants didn't suffer.

Them damn exhale bags are straight snake oil! I’ve tried them and actually have a co2 ppm meter to see if they work and they maybe raised my ppm 50ppm witch isn’t even half a breath from somebody. All these videos show ppm using them but never show a actual ppm reading. I run co2 tanks for my grows.

One has to wonder what exactly is going on in the heads of those who are dedicated to the preservation &/or replacing the natural world while being rabidly dedicated to reducing CO2 to the point of crippling the development of industry & society as a whole. Obviously the reality & understanding that the vegetative aspect of nature i.e trees, plants, grasses, forests, etc, etc, which happens to be the foundation necessary for the existence of a multitude of other lifeforms (including humans Doh!!!), requires & benefits greatly from CO2.....is no longer present in the minds of many. Probably squeezed out by the numerous false realities & misunderstandings that fill many minds today, commonly based on emotional stimuli as opposed to actual knowledge. "Aaargh! Increasing populations means the world won't be able feed everyone....the only solution is MUST REDUCE CO2!!!" Well yes, naturally, as the present CO2 level will aid in creating an abundance of vegetative growth & explosive crop production.....and that's just terrible. Check this....not one single eco-friendly or pro-nature organisation, so called, has or will address the issue of the annual spraying of hundreds of thousands of particulates into the atmosphere consisting mainly of metals aluminium, barium, etc that have been ongoing for over a decade....that has resulted in pristine snowfall on mountains, that just over a decade ago was melted by hikers for drinking water, to today containing levels of aluminium 60,000 (sixty thousand) times than that of the FDA stated safe amount and is also causing &/or significantly contributing to a drop in soil PH levels around the planet resulting in widespread die off of vegetation unable to live in such acidic conditions... ...but don't panic as Monsanto has created a genetically engineered strain of wheat highly resistant to high aluminium levels. I mean, what are the chances....isn't coincidence just an amazing thing. ROLL UP! ROLL UP! COMING TO THE SKIES NEAR YOU! LOOK UP & WATCH IN REAL TIME THE DELIBERATE COLLAPSE OF EARTH'S ECO-SYSTEM! P.S - But don't say or do anything about it or you might be called a conspiracy theorist 🤫

Newbies should be careful with CO2 in unventilated spaces. Every year there is someone who kills their family by running a generator or car in an unventilated garage and it displaces too much oxygen in their home. So be sure to use some sort of regulator.
