Amazing work! My dream is to make a custom car with every part (that’s possible) made in carbon fiber. It’s on my bucket list. A car that’s 1 of 1. Anyone can buy a car but few can custom make it themselves.

Nice work, nice video. Do you think the resin infusion process is worth the cost outlay over wet layup Planning to make a carbon roof myself for my EF Civic. Hoping that switching to carbon over the metal and removing the glass sunroof, mechanism, motor and wiring I can save close to 20kg. Just working out the best way to do it without breaking the bank but while still achieving pretty good results. I build cafe racers, so whatever stuff I get is likely to get used the odd time again to make smaller carbon parts in the future.

Hello Ian, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, 110% YES!!!!!!!, its only the setup cost which is more, to make a actual part there isn't much difference at all

@@autoflockmotorsport7730 No worries, thanks. I think I'll go for the resin infusion setup, won't be used often, but even a couple of times a year over 10 years makes it well worthwhile. Still trying to find a roof from a scrap car to make the mould from but not having much luck and not sure I fancy risking removing my roof incase of issues.

Hi Rob, the blue can is spray tac. Never ever use acetone as it will alter the surface properties.

Noticed you used sprat tac on the first layer of carbon, did this not leave the surface with imperfections. Removing the peel ply can be made so much easier with the use of perforated film .
@autoflockmotorsport7730
@autoflockmotorsport7730 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Gay, not at all, this spray tac is designed to be used with epoxy resin and the infusion process so all traces is removed, as for the peel ply, it also helps when you lay it down release side first :-( epic fail on my side which I paid dearly for in production time. Using the perforated film can sometimes cause saturation issues I have found, the peel ply I use has a wax coating on one side which when placed down correct way to the fabric release perfectly. Everyday is a school day in the Autoflock work shop lol. Many thanks

Hello Ray, Im loving your work and i have a question. Are you using bonded carbon fibre to keep the wave straight or its just normal carbon fiber withouth any adhesive?
@autoflockmotorsport7730
@autoflockmotorsport7730 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there,I use both dry and epoxy bound fabrics, I tend to use bonded fabrics with larger parts to as you say keep the weave neat. On small parts I don't think its necessary, for a novice its a big help then once experience is gained you can move to non bonded. Bonded fabrics cost slightly more than dry fyi. I hope this helps

you dont use clearcoat?
@autoflockmotorsport7730
@autoflockmotorsport7730 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Pedro, no need to, the gelcoat is UV stable and the roof has a fantast deep shine. Only time I would use a clear coat is when secondary sanding is required. Most people clearcoat parts to hide imperfections in the finish
