A detailed look at the disassembly, reassembly, and setup of the Carter YH single-barrel side-draft carburetor we had to pull from the 1963 Corvair Spyder to try to get it running again. I'm a curious dude, so I couldn't help but also do some homemade experiments on this thing while I was at it. Are they scientifically valid? I'm not smart enough to answer that. You be the judge...

My first ever carburetor rebuild just happens to be this same one. First classic, 1963 corvair monza spyder convertible. Thank you so much for this video. Lost count how many times I’ve watched this now

@@lostwrenchgarage no I had to wait on some parts from Clark’s. The butterfly screws for the choke and a couple gaskets. For some reason my choke butterfly is more like 1/16 gap instead of 7/16. Gave up on it today will continue tomorrow

Followed everything from the book and your video not sure why my gap is so small

Welcome to the YH club. I've had them in a '65 and '66 Corsa. They can be finicky. Great to see that you have Bob Helt's book. His other three books are a must for anyone getting into Corvair restoration. We had a problem with fuel boiling over after engine shut off. Float level and good needle and seats were critical. Alcohol in some fuels we had to use were probably part of the problem. Good luck with your Spyder.

@@lostwrenchgarage If you're forty five minutes from Kokomo, have you discovered the Circle City Corvair Club in Indy? It's a great group. My wife and I haven't been active since before Covid. We sold our Corsa, but you just might inspire us to look for an early model.
