Carcinoid syndrome is a rare condition that can develop in individuals with certain types of neuroendocrine tumors, particularly those located in the gastrointestinal tract or lungs. As the tumor grows, it releases excess amounts of certain chemicals, such as serotonin and histamine, into the bloodstream, causing a range of symptoms including flushing, diarrhea, wheezing, and heart valve damage.
