This was actually the second time that Peter Tomarken was replaced in a time slot by a show hosted by Bob Eubanks, in this case, the 10:30am slot on CBS, where "Press Your Luck" was before. Previously, Tomarken hosted "Hit Man" at 11:30am on NBC in 1983. However, after 13 weeks, it would be replaced by "Dream House", hosted by Eubanks. If that's not weird, I don't know what is.

According to announcer/radio DJ Randy West, a couple more people who were considered for the hosting job on this show were British presenter Bruce Forsyth, who had already hosted this format of the show in his native land, and Patrick Wayne. I'm guessing the former was already committed to doing "Hot Streak" on ABC, which may be why he didn't get the job, and thank goodness the latter didn't get it. Some people would unfortunately see how bad a host he would be four years later.

Some stations showed PYL at Noon(WCBS), 9:30AM(WCAU Philly), or 5PM(WTRF Wheeling West Va.). KDKA aired Tattletales 80s and Body Language at 9:30AM(Pittsburgh), but at some point in 1986, dropped PYL and I think Love Connection at 9AM in favor of Hart to Hart reruns.

"Press Your Luck" would have continued for another 10 years on CBS had it not been relegated to what had become the death time slot of 4pm ET due to affiliates opting to air syndicated or local programming...I say this because reruns of PYL on USA Network did no worse and occasionally did better than first-run PYL on CBS was doing at the end. Same thing with most of the reruns USA aired.

OliveOyl12590 You can't blame them. Body Language was just in a very unpopular time slot. The executives were worried that placing a new show like Card Sharks in that spot would make it do just as badly and they hoped that putting a popular show like Press Your Luck in that space would fix that but it didn't.

I used to watch Card Sharks on tv the summer of 1975, when I was age 14. It was 30 minutes, M-F, mornings. I liked it back then, but didn't know it was on in the 1980s. Those cards sure were big, during 1975. I don't like the 2021 version of it. Reboots of any show or game are rarely any good. I watched the Newlywed game as a child, with Eubanks hosting. No. Michael Larson's run happened in 1984, two years before the show ended. Secondly, when Card Sharks debuted, CBS moved PYL out its morning slot to another one at 4 PM, replacing it with CS. The ratings suffered in response of that, causing the end of PYL.

CBS brought back Card Sharks and deathslotted Press Your Luck because Mark Goodson wanted Rod Roddy to replace Johnny Olson on The Price Is Right. Mark Goodson wanted more money from CBS to renew The Price Is Right. CBS claimed they couldn't "afford" both Press Your Luck and The Price Is Right. Mark Goodson offered CBS Card Sharks to replace Body Language and CBS took him up on it. At the time, Johnny Olson had recently passed away and CBS wasn't crazy about Gene Wood on The Price Is Right. Also, Press Your Luck was even in ratings going up against Sale Of The Century and Wheel Of Fortune was kicking the shit out of The Price Is Right in the 11am Eastern time slot. Unfortunately, Johnny Olson's death, CBS' horrible ratings and Mark Goodson's shear greed were the perfect storm for Press Your Luck's lousy fate.

Who can blame the viewers? I guess they got tired of seeing the Whammy and instead got interested in seeing a contestant try to win up to $32,000, $3,000 more than the original NBC version. But look on the bright side: Peter Tomarken had a great three years hosting "America's Most Competitve Game". As the Brady Kids once suggested in the episode of "Dough Re Mi" back in early 1972, "When it's time to change, then it's time to change".

Christopher Howell I think what happened in the end was that the executives of CBS wanted Press Your Luck to go where Body Language was because they were worried that a new show like Card Sharks wouldn't do as well in that space. In reality, Press Your Luck suffered a decline in viewership simply because people weren't tuning into that starting at that time. At the end of that day, neither of those shows would've done better at 4:00 p.m..

@@mitchellries256 Sadly, Mitchell. I HATE to say it. I am right. Mark Goodson wanted a king's ransom from CBS to renew The Price Is Right. CBS claimed it couldn't "afford" both Press Your Luck and The Price Is Right. Really? That and they were giving away hundreds of thousands on The $100,000 Pyramid?? Oddly enough, Mark Goodson wanted Rod Roddy to replace the recently deceased Johnny Olson. Gene Wood was announcing for The Price Is Right just after Johnny died but CBS wasn't thrilled with Gene's announcing on the show and The Price Is Right was getting its teeth kicked in by Wheel Of Fortune in the ratings. Also, Press Your Luck and Sale Of The Century were even in the ratings. The problems CBS were facing seemed astronomical considering they had a Goliath in Press Your Luck that they only needed to be the "lead in" show to its cash cow. When your "lead in" show fades in popularity from a cult classic to a draw that is just pedestrian but still better than your cash cow and your bread and butter is getting killed by Wheel Of Fortune on NBC, you have major issues.

OliveOyl12590 You can explain all you want but I still don't believe you. For all I know you could be making all this stuff up. Not to mention you have no sources to back that up. Besides it doesn't matter. Because at the end of the day, CBS want able to have all shows running at once successfully so no matter what they did, it just wouldn't work out in the end. But if you ask me that's okay because all three of those shows (Pyramid, PYL and Card Sharks are on ABC now so they don't have to worry about Price is Right stealing any thunder from them now. Also I never asked for your opinion so shut up.
