What was the best Modern deck ever? We made our community vote for one deck to represent each year since 2011, played four rounds of Swiss, and now we bring you each match of the Top 8. Andrea is playing Carl and either Deathrite Shaman or Summer Bloom could be knocked out of the tournament.

Having looked at the Swiss rounds, Hogaak more or less dominated the field, and it's not likely to be very close at all. There's a reason that Hogaak was the card banned once the deck pivoted so smoothly away from the Bridges to the other shenanigans the deck had. Honestly, Hogaak was even better without Bridge, too, which is the more terrifying part.
@Geroaergaroe
@Geroaergaroe 10 ай бұрын
Considering what's planned, it'll be determined by whether scam can kick out Hogaak or not. The issue is, you'd need to have a very dedicated sideboard to deal with Gaak. I don't think Scam is favoured at all.
@blueredlover1060
@blueredlover1060 10 ай бұрын
@@Geroaergaroe Looking at the Rakdos Midrange/Scam deck in modern, according to MTGGoldfish, they run 4 Voidwalkers maindeck, and 2ish Hearses in the Side, which would generally be enough graveyard hate. However, I get the feeling that Gaak won't necessarily care about either, since Hearse is really slow and the combo is instant speed. Voidwalker is fast enough, but likely eats a push or similar removal spell at the earliest time that Gaak sees one. Fury and Grief are generally pretty bad against Gaak as well.
@fabulous_finn7810

Idk, I feel like eldrazi aggro will be able to handle scam shenanigans. Especially on the play g1. Shitting out multiple mimics and top decking a thought-knot seer is not out of the question, and pre-lurrus shadow will not likely be able to keep up with the raw power of eldrazi aggro.

@guillaumebasch2688 10 ай бұрын
@@CardmarketMagic it wasn’t any one particular play (although milling a deck with deep analysis is very suspect), it was more the general principle of the deck that I think you got wrong. The whole point of playing fogs (or weather the storm) over removal is that they are more mana efficient, the downside is they are card disadvantage. You need to be constantly drawing multiple cards a turn for it to work. So your card advantage spells need to find you fogs AND more card advantage to keep it going. Several times you were just looking for fogs and so you eventually just ran out. When you were returning cards from the graveyard (I forget the name of the card that does it) you needed to be returning the card advantage spells not the fogs. Once you have enough gas to keep yourself drawing multiple cards a turn THEN you can start returning the fogs.

Was not expecting that level of wholesomeness xD thanks you guys! As a commander only player it feels so wrong playing with 20 life. Could not imagine the pressure.
