I cut a couple of slits in the battery cover and bent the two prongs over to mount the rear unit, fits securely with no worries of a stickey pad becoming un-stickey, haven't been brave enough to cut down the infill panel yet but really appreciate the video.

I hadn't thought of that, nice one! Cutting the infill panel is easier than it looks, you'll be fine with that. Incidentally, I did end up gluing mine in after a few rides, which isn't shown in the video. This was just a precautionary measure, as I was getting paranoid about them vibrating out and getting lost. Good luck with the cutting!👍

I have a Shoei GT Air-2 with similar triangle side plates (made for a Sena - boo!), and the Cardo Packtalk BOLD (with JBL speakers). I stuck it on left side above and forward of that plate; it's a bit more forward than most put it but I find it easier to reach it to press the buttons. The advantages of it are no additional battery pack, and you can pop it off for security or charging (I don't think the slim battery disconnects for charging?). As the GT Air-2 is full face, I used the stick on mic into the cutout that Shoei thoughtfully put right in the center of the chin bar foam. Quite happy with it. It's a quiet helmet especially with a windscreen so I can even use it with ear plugs easily. To anyone worried about drag from either unit, If you ride a touring or ADV bike with a larger windshield like me, you shouldn't have any noticeable drag or noise. Maybe if you have a sport bike where your helmet is out in the open air stream...
@TheBoltHoleBiker2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for that, very informative. I sometimes wish I'd gone for the Bold to be honest, partly for the reasons that you mention and partly because the buttons look easier to find with gloves on and, if I'm not mistaken, don't you have a wheel for the volume? I think that would be much easier. GT Air-2 is a nice looking helmet!
@ToddGlasier2 жыл бұрын
@@TheBoltHoleBiker I don't have an issue pressing the right buttons with gloves on, I have an issue remembering all the diff functions and combo button presses to do them all! Really I just use the one button to FF to next song, and YES the WHEEL for volume (more of a roller...). If I set up my bike as the Bluetooth "hub" I can use the handlebar controls for media and phone controls. I've lately been trying it without the bike, just Cardo to phone and that works too, just a little differently ('Hey Google' only works in this mode).
@TheBoltHoleBiker2 жыл бұрын
@@ToddGlasier I know what you mean, there's a lot that can be done with just those three buttons, it's a lot to remember. I've just learnt the bits I use and then hope that I don't hit the wrong buttons! What bike is it that you have that you can operate Cardo via the handlebar controls? I like the sound of that. Best way that I have managed to find for me is when I can get a three way bluetooth link between my phone, helmet and Garmin sat nav, as that way I can operate everything via the sat nav, but it is a black art working out how to get them all to connect! Hopefully it won't be too long before one of the companies finally manages to create a really good, solid system. That will be a good day.

Well made vid👍 I've got the Neotec and GT Air helmets both currently wired with Interphone F5s. Wife and I want to upgrade to the Cardo mainly because of poor battery life on the Interphones. It certainly looks more difficult to fit than our current system. You got it to fit nice in the end. We also have a vlog set up wired in and I've definitely found I can get better (less wind noise) from the full face GT Air than from the flip front.
@TheBoltHoleBiker3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree, the flip front definitely adds an element of complication to a vlog set up, I went through lots of different mic configurations before settling on what I have now, which is completely basic - just a bare mic gaffer taped into the front of the helmet. I am tempted to go down the route of external audio, just weighing up funds! The Cardo works well by the way, the clarity of the radio signal is better than Bluetooth. Cheers for watching!

Hi, yes, it works well - decent system, decent sound, buttons easier to feel than the Sena ones, and I haven't noticed any drag, so all positive really. The confidence required to start attacking the helmet with the Dremel came from the knowledge that I was really only cutting a plastic cover that I could easily replace if I messed it up! The quality of your presentation (sound, video and narration) is excellent. I feel sick having just bought a Neotec 2 and now having to decide being going with the sena integrated or fitting a packtalk to ride with friends who have packtalks. I noticed (on my helmet) that the channel groove for the boom microphone passes straight through the ear speaker with NO EXTRA SPACE for OEM microphones that are longer, fatter or have the sticky pad sections. Sadly I saw you couldn't successfully route your boom into the groove either. I saw mentioned in the comments. Would you still go this route or install the mesh version of the sena. What was your thought process and approach when masking the plastic cover to fir the slim? I am all but sold on getting this unit for my neotec2. Did you use any sealing compound to bond the slim to the plastic piece?
@TheBoltHoleBiker3 жыл бұрын
I fitted the Cardo without the plastic cover first to position it correctly and then marked the initial cut somewhere close to where it needed to be and then continued to just trim small amounts from the plastic and keep trying the Cardo in place until it was a good fit. It was a little bit fiddly, but not bad and didn't take long at all. I didn't bond the Cardo in place, as it just holds itself in place fine, as it does on other helmets, but I did end up bonding the plastic cover pieces in place, just because I was a bit paranoid that if they vibrated their way out at any time I didn't have replacements.
@MikeMagoo863 жыл бұрын
@@TheBoltHoleBiker Makes sense. I mean bonding the plastic to the cradle, not so much the unit itself. This break down has made me decided. Slim it is! I want waterproof(resistant) unit and Sena just doesn't offer that. Cheers!

I’m super confused. Why not use the Sena that costs the same and fits into the helmet? I own both the pactalk slim and the sena and neither one is better than the other. The jbl speakers are decent at best. Use them both in gt air one and two helmets
@TheBoltHoleBiker3 жыл бұрын
kurbaniak it was because of the mesh function - I was going away with three other people and we all wanted to communicate and two of them already had Cardo’s. The mesh facility is excellent.

Excellent! Thanks. I bought the Neotec and Sena SRL-2 because of the clean installation. My buddies then all went out and bought cardo packtalk bolds. So a very similar problem as you described. Given you have done this, would you still go this route, or would you go with the bold unit? If not, are you still happy with this? Any things you would do differently? Also I note on Cardo site they have different clamp and skirt lengths: www.cardosystems.com/packtalkslim-compatible/ did you follow this?
@TheBoltHoleBiker3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, cheers for watching, I wasn't aware of the different clamp and skirt lengths to be honest, so no, I didn't follow the compatibility guidelines. I guess I must have been lucky with the ones that came with it, as they work fine. Having not ever used the Bold I'm not sure which I would prefer, but I can confirm that I am still happy with the Slim installation and it works well. I personally don't like the look of big blocks stuck on the side of helmets, so I would still go down the Slim route. In terms of things that I would do differently, initially I didn't glue the plastic parts that I had to cut into place, as the Cardo seemed to wedge them in well, but I did do a retro gluing of them as I was worried that they could vibrate out eventually. Other than that, no problem. I have developed a habit of pressing up on the bottom of the unit occasionally to ensure that it hasn't slipped down from the helmet, but I think this is just paranoia, as it never seems to move! Let me know which way you go.

@@TheBoltHoleBiker Thanks for taking the time to respond and provide an update. I ordered a slim yesterday, so I will follow your approach. As for the compatibility part, the product now ships with two different size clamps and two different width skirts (long and short). Will keep you posted. Cheers!

@@TheBoltHoleBiker I was able to do the installation of the control unit yesterday. Those extra clamps and skirt only apply to the battery module, so the installation was exactly as you describe it. I was able to retain about 1mm between the rear piece of the plate and the front piece as it profiled around that Packtalk control unit. This means I have a single piece vs 2 separate plate pieces. It feels very hard to pull down, so I don't think slipping out will be a problem. While not as elegant as the Sena SRL-2 fitting, overall - as you say - I'm happy with the result, so thank you for taking the time to share this hack. Now, if only Sena and Packtalk could just agree on an intercom standard and we wouldn't have these shenanigans to deal with.

Yes, that is a slight downside. I did use it for two years before changing to the Cardo though, so it wasn't a complete waste of money and I am considering getting another helmet in a different colour, which could possibly fit the Sena, so it might still be used.

@@jamiek9907 Very wise. I have the large helmet and to be honest, could have probably got away with the medium, but I think I am somewhere in-between - I ended up getting the thicker cheek pads and swapping them over to get a snugger fit (only after having the helmet for a couple of years and the padding compressing slightly). Shops opening tomorrow hopefully! Woohoo! I've got some purchases lined up as well! Happy shopping!😂

I needed the mesh at the time and Sena didn't do it then, so it was the best option available. Now that Sena do mesh I don't disagree that the integrated system would be a neater option. I've got nothing against the Sena, they just didn't do what I needed at the time.
@tamerpolat98453 жыл бұрын
So which one is better.....the Sena SRL or Cardo packtalk bold?
@TheBoltHoleBiker3 жыл бұрын
For what I want it for, ie the mesh facility, the Cardo is better because the Sena doesn't have it. The JBL speakers are a bit better on the Cardo as well and the buttons are a bit easier to feel through gloves. But they are both good and the Sena looks better, as it completely integrates into the shape of the helmet. I'd say functionality-wise they are the same, they both do exactly what they are meant to do.

@@nycowboy2288 Yes, you can do voice commands on the SRL, for me the music was always a bit quiet on the Sena, especially at motorway speeds, but bear in mind that my bikes are both nakeds, so there is a fair bit of wind noise to factor in to the equation. I can certainly hear the Cardo speakers a bit better though.
