They're one of thew few fish I've never kept. I have some old fish encyclopedia from the 50's or something that suggested you should keep a tight lid on your hatchet fish aquarium because it is rumored they can fly. Lol!

Great tips. Got a group of marbled hatchets 2 years ago. Lost half to an ich outbreak. Bought some more to replenish the group. 2 escaped through a narrow slot in the lid while in quarantine. Even lost 1 or 2 last summer vacation, jumping out the feeding hole where my auto feeder was placed.

Just a suggestion from a European: Whenever you mention temperatures, could you put the conversion to Celsius as text in the video? Inches and gallons are reasonably easy to convert to rough estimates of metric, but Fahrenheit is pretty difficult without looking it up.

I had eight marbles that were wild caught and they might have had an internal parasite that I didn't catch and did not quarantine them. I have one left and after feeding antiparasite food for a week, it seems to be doing well. They are super cool fish just like the pencil fish but picky.

Years ago I had the marble hatchets. A great way to keep them is making an extended hi-rise top (kind of like putting a tank upside down on top to give them air space) with lexan clear polycarbonate. It looks beautiful with plants growing on it like brazilian pennywort.

Thanks for all your great videos! You might be too busy to answer personal questions, but I’m wondering what kinds of hachetfish are featured in this video? I see magenta ones with green flashing in their abdomens, light pink ones, they’re all stunning!! Are these different kinds or is it just how the light is hitting the silver ones? Thanks 🤗

I have looked around at local fish stores for almost a year before I found one small seller that had three of the silver hatchetfish in stock, so I got all of them. Most of the shops around Houston said they hadn’t had any come in all of 2021. I wanted 6, but this is a start I guess…

I haven't seen hatchetfish in the store since I was a kid in the 70s and early 80s, so when I went to the store and saw one I had to have it. The person said there were four in the tank, so either a mean-spirited person bought only three, or the other three jumped out of the tank I didn't want the hatchet fish to be lonely so I brought it home and put it in with my x-ray tetra and he thinks he is one of them. eventually I will find more
