Here's the unreleased song from Mark I Video that show Norfolk & Western is still a legendary railroad.

FYI... The reason this tune is so catchy is because it was done by William Fries, aka CW McCall, who did "Convoy". He worked with Chip Davis, who was a jingle writer at the same ad agency. Davis wrote all the orchestrations for the ad jingles and McCall's country music, then went on to found Mannheim Steamroller, and American Gramaphone Records.

Ya know, the song used here strikes me as having been written by someone who doesn't really know much about the railroad industry and its vocabulary. The word "Cargo" was used in the ocean shipping and air freight industries, not for railroad traffic. On the railroads and in the trucking industry, the things hauled were (and still are) referred to as "Freight." If you wanted to know the status of business in general, you would never ask a railroader or a trucker, "How's Cargo?" You would ask him, "How's Freight?" And his answer would be, "Freight is up" or "Freight is down." Before you romp on me for being a hyper-purist, talk to your neighborhood trucker, or better yet, go read the historical documents from the ICC (Interstate Commmerce Commission,) which regulated all haulage by rail, truck, air and water. The general public is now entirely out-of-touch with everything railroad, and they only know us as the guys who block crossings. So it is only natural that the talking heads on the television screen should refer to railroads as "train companies," and to rail freight as "cargo" and make suchlike blunders. They just don't know any better... How do I know this stuff...? Well, for starters, I worked in the business for 46 years.
@CSX26652 жыл бұрын
i hate to say it but i sometimes use the word cargo to describe a train i think it sounds better than "freight"

No the Union Pacific didn’t hurt Norfolk & Western. Union Pacific did the dumbest thing it ever did. It gave away the Phoenix to Los Angeles & Yuma Rail freight traffic to the trucking companies and it pulled up many miles of freight Yard lines in the former Southern Pacific, D&RGW, Cotton Belt Line, Chicago & Northwestn freight yards in Colton,CA,Los Angeles,CA,Yuma & Tucson,AZ,El Paso,TX, San Antonio & Houston,TX,Dallas,TX, now that was very stupid of them
