The year this came out a popular show in tv was called "Kung Fu" with David Carradine. CKLW was having a Countdown to #1 weekend & my brother decided to listen to all of it. My brother was in his room with the radio on & a friend had a transistor radio that we had on our porch. They said "CKLW's number one song". Kung Fu Fighting came on & I could hear my brother "ARGH! I STAYED UP ALL WEEKEND FOR THIS?!".

@susanfabian1521, CKLW -- the station of choice for many of my high school classmates. I live in North Central Ohio and the station, which broadcast from Windsor, Ontario, came in clearly here. Kung Fu Fighting was a major hit, spending two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1974

Also speaking of CKLW, Kung Fu Fighting was #1 for all of December 1974 and two weeks in January 1975 on the station's Big 30 chart -- highly unusual for a song to stay that long at the top in those days.

This a great upbeat song. In the 70's Kung Fu theater was the thing to watch on Saturday! This was a great dance song. I remember it being played at a family cook out. Carl is from Kingston Jamaica.

I have so enjoyed watching and listening to you react to this sweetheart, my younger siblings were up prancing around every time they heard it until the table was kicked and the tray with the teapot and other breakables went flying off. Mum went crazy and they were never allowed to dance to it indoors again. The funniest bit of it was the milk and sugar ended up on the family dog and he needed a bath after the floor was cleaned up. They were then sent to bed and grounded for a week. Everytime I hear this the memory of that makes me laugh so I was laughing with you and I wouldn't be surprised that others were too. Take care and stay safe please everyone, God bless you all, love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen UK

From France I had exactly the same reaction more than 40 years ago. You have the good feeling my friend. I grew up with the fantastic music of the 60s,70s, 80s. There were so many different styles. I will suggest you 3 beautiful songs: Give your baby a standing ovation by the Dells ( the beginning, "wow", one of the most beautiful in history of music. 1973). In the rain by the dramatics 1971, a piece of art Let's groove by earth wind and fire 1981, only joy. Have fun Sorry if I made mistakes, it's difficult for me 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

This was re-mixed in 1998 by a group called 'Bus Stop', who sampled the original vocals by Carl Douglas and added rap verses.

Love this one. I was in junior high school(7th-8th grades) and my best friend was a big Bruce Lee fan and had just gotten her black belt. Some kid thought he was smart playing this song the next morning when she walked into class...😂😂😂😂 Let's just say it's lucky for him the teacher caught him first

You have to remember when we heard this song we did not have the video. I didn't see the video for 20 years. The flute adds a spiritual aspect to it. Mixed martial arts has always been a philosophical and highly revered Sport and way of life. And yes you definitely have to have expert timing. I remember all the guys we're very much into martial arts and all those movies that went along with it. It is still true today. It is an ancient art. And you're right it has a great vibe to it it was something we had never heard before.

Carl would love your review. I visited with Carl when I went to London. Whenever he came to Denver when I younger we would ask him to do karate. He's still doing well. And I'm proud to know him. My mother has a daughter with him, she too is Jamaican and was in London at the time they were together and had My sister. .He currently resides in London, Hamburg Germany and Kingston Jamaica. My sister was just in Kingston last month and just went to see him. This song will live on forever. 😀 🇯🇲 🇩🇪 🇬🇧

You mean that you never heard this before??? No way man! Damn! It was all the excuse we needed to start a rumble in the playground back in the 70s. And laughing at the same time. We were young, but still knew it was cheesy. But still kinda good. We'd had the David carradine Kung Fu TV series by then. Good memories.
