what a pair that was...Lara & Hooper...one of my fvr8 Westindian players in 90s...they had a gr8 understanding between them..gr8 idea about the game...they had a gr8 partnership against Australia while chasing a target of 281..which was a very difficult task in Australia in a day night game..both had scored century...

It was a joy to watch him bat. He was laid back...didn't do justice to his enormous talent...many times lost his wicket due to concentration lapses. When he hit a century in debut test against India he promised to be as great as Vivian Richards.

Carl Hooper is the most talented player I have ever seen, but he never lived up to his talent. He always lost concentration and get out at the most inopportune times.

There was nothing wrong with his concentration. He add one ☝️ very bad flaw in his technique, which worked FOR and AGAINST him. He hit the ball in the air WAY too much . Due to his EFFORTLESS ELEGANCE when the ball went flying back over the bowlers head or through the covers for 6 with GRACEFUL EASE, it looked SUBLIME and BEAUTIFUL to watch.BUT when he got caught playing the exact same shot. Then the critics start saying he lacks concentration. David Gower had a similar problem, he would play these EXQUISITE ELEGANT drives through the covers ( keeping the ball on the floor) perfectly timed,which would go flying to the boundary in seconds and EVERYONE would MARVEL at what a CLASS ACT he was. He would do the exact same shot and edge the ball to wicket keeper or slips and the same critics would then blame for trying hit at a ball outside off stump and that he is s careless batsmen. IT HAS NOTHING TOO DO WITH THEIR CONCENTRATION and CARELESSNESS.

Carl Hooper was the most elegant West Indian batsman after Lara in that era. I like his stroke play, he used to play even the lofted shots gently 👌👌
