Great review Carl. I second all your points. I've been wearing WeatherWool since 2017 and despite my heavy use, tossing heavy logs over my shoulder, canoe tripping, camping, cooking over the fire, and running chainsaws and other woodworking and construction projects I can still bang the dust off them with a wooden stick, give it a brush, and wear it into the city, work, or family occasions. They all still look great. Thanks for showing them your support.

Yeah, it took me a few months to have the courage to work in WeatherWool. I even remembered asking Ralph if it was really strong enough to do heavy logging in. He just laughed and said yeah. I get stabbed all the time by branches. I’ve felled over 300 trees and picked up all the sticks in either my anorak or CPO shirt. The only thing you want to be carful about is tree sap. But even that over time seems to work it’s way out.

Nicks boots x Weatherwool x Heatstraps did a collab on a coat called "The Patriot", phenomenal. Weatherwool did the liner in that mid weight wool. I am very fortunate to have this all USA made masterpiece

REAL REVIEW HERE- I've had this anorak for a while now. Mid weight in Canada. Unfortunately it's extremely expensive up here with the exchange rate. I wear it a lot in all kinds of conditions. Wet, dry, winter, summer etc Few things to note- the negatives - the garnet will get holes in it from embers ( not sparks) so beware. Also the synch systems for the mid body is useless and in a very awkward spot if you want to lay down. ( I cut mine off) Also very important to note. If this wool( like all wool) gets wet... It stays wet for a VERY long time... Yes it might keep you a little bit warmer in a survival situation. Which we most likely will all find ourselves in while wearing it 😝 Positives- it is not itchy in the slightest. The sewing is very good and you can tell it's quality. I do love the pockets and the side zips. The look is great in and out of the bush... definitely my go to garment when I'm not alpine camping. ( It's heavy AF) They have excellent customer service. Even when dealing with the North. Would love to see fur around the hood as a future option. Different synch system for the lower parts. Perhaps even a inch or two extra in length. Overall- it's a good product.

I got my Anorak a month ago. I absolutely love it, and it is by far my favorite piece of kit! I got the mid weight because I live in GA. The Anorak seams to have a brain that just keeps you comfortable no matter what temperature you're in. And I agree with Carl I don't want to take it off and may not until June!!

Been a customer of theirs for almost 5 years now. 2 anoraks, an all around jacket, a Patriot coat, several hats, multiple neck gaiters. It is the best wool I’ve worn. Obviously worth the price to me!

@@WelderVp Absolutely love the AAJ. I haven’t received my Patriot yet (xl), but waiting for it. 1 thing .. the AAJ is slightly oversized. Not a big deal for me, but some might prefer a tighter fit. I prefer trapped air and have had no regrets ordering a size larger than I normally wear

Follow up post. If you can afford it, it's probably worth it. I've heard nothing but good things about this product, the people who created it and their company. My prior post was just to let people know that if you can't afford something of such high quality and craftsmanship you can always make your own. Yours may not be as good as weather wools but with a little creativity and effort you can have something similar. To be honest if I could afford an Al's anorak I would definitely buy one. Not only because the quality and care that goes into the weather wool products but also just to support the weather wool brand and the people behind it. They seem like good people that care about their products. That's a rare quality in this day and age.

I've been waiting for you to do a video on Weatherwool ever since you casually mentioned the brand in your Filson Mack Cruiser alternatives. Thank you for putting so much research into your videos and giving consumers the opportunity to own less but better quality goods. Your channel introduced me to great under-the-radar brands like Cravar, Weatherwool and Frank Clegg who I've beeen supporting and the items meet/exceed expectations. The wait is finally over, Ralph (Weatherwool Owner) is a great guy and really cares about making quality products. I bought the black heavyweight WW Anorak a year ago and was totally blown away by its quality and function. Superior to anything I've had before. Shortly thereafter, I bought a mid weight version in OD and a heavyweight one for wife too. Lastly, dealing with the owner Ralph was a real pleasure. He actually answers the phone when you call and is more than willing to spend the time helping you out.. Just ordered a shirt jac that should be ready soon. The only negative is that pretty much all my other outdoor garmets are obsolete now.

I purchased a anorak 5 years ago from Ralph it was £400 plus £70 import tax I'm in the UK this is the type of man Ralph is he wanted to pay the import tax for me and I would not let him I'm not wealthy but I will invest in my self I'm only on this planet once the anorak is absolutely outstanding nothing comes close nothing and I have 50 years of hunting behind me if you won't pay the money then don't just keep on buying second best

I just got a weather wool peacoat. Wow, its in its full weight and looks and feels great. Very good to work with because they work with you. Im going to use the peacoat with a weather wool poncho to make a extremely warm and comfortable cold weather system to keep warm. American quality and all American made.

I've been following this channel for several years and the same thing goes for WeatherWool. The thing is their garments are just too expensive for me, and I don't live in a place where I may need such a dramatically hardcore wool garment. But one day I will get one WW garment and I know it'll beat any of my Filson Mackinaw jackets. BTW, please make a video about how your anorak deals with heavy rain and snow. I have hunted the MO deer season in mid and full weight anoraks. These are x2 warmer than my Filson double Mac cruiser, and they do not itch. Cleared a trail several days ago - fresh snow dumped on me from the trees - the wool just sheds it and didn't become wet past the nap on the surface. When I have had the material in the rain and it does finally get some wetness, it doesn't reach my skin underneath, and it dries quickly. Their wool is like armor against the cold. It extends the time I can spend outdoors and the temps I can operate in. I used the lending library to get the perfect fit - XL is my "correct" size, but I need 2XL in the anorak. 5'10", 210 lbs. 48" chest. My AAJ is XL and the 2XL was just too large/bag-like as it hung off my shoulders. Ralph is a treasure to deal with. I do not regret spending the money on the anoraks (OD mid-weight, brown and lynx full weight) or the AAJs (OD full weight for me, Lynx full weight for the wife). I have always bought Carhartt jackets and they end up being heavy and hard and working outside is tiring for me and in reality they do not provide protection against extreme cold and rain and what I see is that weather wool is flexible and more true?

Damn that’s a lot of money but that’s super cool. I just looked at their sight and the shirt And the poncho would be cool. Unfortunately I live in SoCal and I am a warm guy. So I don’t get to wear jackets enough to justify a $600ish purchase of something I would only wear a handful of times a year. If I lived somewhere cold I would totally be down to check it out though! I'm going to use my Frank's boots as an example. Before Frank's I was wearing redwing boots. I thought there is no way you can make a boot that much better for double the price. It took me 3 years to finally pull the trigger and I was very surprised. How are tur weather wool garments compared to the others? I wear a work n sport zip up insulated hoodie everyday in the winter. When it get really cold I put a second one on. How would there compare to something like a carhartt or the like? I'm all for spending money on great American made stuff if is really that much better.

I like wool. It does seem to garner a high, indeed premium, price at times. I wear wool socks daily and prefer tee shirts and long sleeve of wool over cotton. Synthetics are not needed. 👍

Its expensive, no doubt about that, but you wont find a higher quality piece with nicer people behind it anywhere. You can call Ralph directly and he will tell you all about the piece you're considering. Try getting that kind of attention at Filson!

I wear the mid weight to go running in the winter months in the morning. With a couple layers and wind under 15 mph, it works well at 20 F.

This certainly looks like a very nice well thought out piece, but I personally just don't like hoodies and it has more features than I'd want. The price, well many people don't think twice about spending more on a leather jacket that could never be as cozy as wool so why not. You can't beat the hugging feel of a stout leather jacket, but you can't beat the cozy and much less restrictive feel of wool either. I myself would rather track down a good condition pre war hood hunting coat because that's more my speed, but any old pre war 30oz + wool pieces are hard to come by and very sought after regardless of make because they just don't make 'em like they used to. This is new so you can just buy it now, you don't have to wait for something to come along and take a gamble on a vintage 2nd hand piece.

The only downside I've found to this fabric is how readily burrs attach and thorns poke into the material, also very difficult to separate the burrs once they latch on, when I'm wearing it in the woods this happens quite often and I haven't found a way around it. This is the only thing keeping me from using this product all throughout the year, I truly wish it was bur proof, but nothing is perfect.

This one is a large. I typically wear anything from a tee shirt to a flannel beneath.

Perhaps they'll make a insulated/heavy-weight version of this. The specs claim comfort only down to -7C (20F) - in Canada during winter, that's (no joke) a 'warm' winter's day...if it can't keep you comfortable down to -25C (-13F), it has to be used just as a base or mid layer.

The only reason why i did not use weather wool, no custom orders i heard. So i had another company hand make me a custom wool and shepra poncho and zarape. Weather wool would have been a lot cheaper option.

Weatherwool has the best wool garments on the market hands down.. to be completely honest after I bought the all around jacket I wasn't a fan of the look 😂 but when you have to deal with below freezing temperatures most of the year it's kind of a buy once, cry once situation lol warmth and quality is all that matters to me

@@pmays4 it feels amazing I'm just used to the tighter looking weave and the flatter lines that you see on jackets like the filson cruiser. When I first got the all around jacket my initial thought right off the bat was that it looked like the jacket was made with a thick nice bath towel 😂 it's so much thicker and softer than other jackets it just took some getting used to, totally worth the money if you have it 👍 I'm looking at getting the cpo shirt jack that they make now it has a more traditional look in my opinion and with the quality of the wool it's probably warmer than a Mackinaw cruiser

I love my Stormy Kromers. The mackinaw and the town coat. 26 oz virgin wool, made in USA. Unfortunately, the town coat is no longer in production. But I will be on the lookout for these jackets.

I like it a lot but it's far to expensive. I could never afford to put $625 into a hoodie. I guess I could treat it like a jacket, then maybe the price isn't as bad. Just as an example of what I currently wear hunting. Surplus Canadian wool shirt, with Surplus military thermals, and wool socks, as well as a single pair of new big bill wool pants. All of that cost me a little over $200. That's an entire wool outfit for a fraction of the price. It's an awesome looking hoodie but unless I got it as a gift it would be far outside my price range at this point in life. Sucks because this thing is actually a well thought out wool hoodie. I could see myself rocking this.

I had a gift card for 200 last year, and I called them to ask when they will have it shipped if I bought their mid weight drab Anorak. They told me to give them the gift card 200, and they'll ship it out the next day, and I could make monthly payments on the rest. Really good people at Weatherwool. I didn't take them up on it, I just paid the rest. But it was very nice of them to offer. And Carl isn't joking or fibbing, this wool and craftsmanship is on another level.

This company is the definition of a grassroots company. I know the price will sting but that is the ONLY thing that will sting. The AAJ is an amazing jacket that absolutely destroys anything Filson will sell you. The owner Ralph and wife Debbie are great folk and know a lot about the business. I live about an hour from them and they are very welcoming people. I urge anyone looking for high quality outerwear to patronize this kick ass business.

Ralph, his wife Debbie & son Alex invited me over to discuss the coat. They’re very chill down to earth folk. I love talking over fabrics with him. He has very extensive knowledge and really delves into what you’re buying. Last year I bought the All Around Jacket. It’s probably my favorite piece of outerwear.
