No dia da filmagem Carmen estava com uma gripe muito forte e precisou de uma injeção, a gravação da cena seria cancelada, mas Carmen ficou determinada a gravar.

Middle eastern harem dresses were very lose and mostly had a cut. Moreover this dress was designed by carmen herself and she gave credit to brazilian women so its african tribal inspired. Neither indian nor middle eastern

I’m glad they showed her band. The NY producers wanted her and her alone, but she said no. “Not without the boys.” She held fast even when Hollywood called. Amazing woman, fantastic life.

@@jcp1756 She sure is, in the movie her and her friend have reason to believe her father is cheating on her mother with Carmen Miranda. Later they discover he was only receiving dancing lessons from Carmen as an anniversary gift to her mother. In this scene she still does not know that. This is a really fun uplifting movie, 1948 "A Date With Judy".

Yeah that line doesn't have anything to do with society. They think their dad is having an affair with her. It's part of the movie plot! Carmen Miranda was one of the biggest names globally at the time. She was pretty loved and adored!

It was because they thought that their father and carmen miranda were disrespecting their mother by the situation. That's all I'm saying. It's very true that the dance isn't controversial now. Her face was so beautiful, and so animated, and you could just see all of her inside shining light sparkle right out of those feisty eyes!! She was fun and cheeky, yet classy and timeless. Too bad she couldn't have had a much longer life, but the truly brightest stars seem to shine for the shortest amount of time. Her light lives on though, and will never truly dim.

When this song was on the radio (1948) I was 3 years old. I thought the lyrics were "Juan tell a goose, tell a goose, tell a goose"--made sense to a 3 year old! Love Carmen Miranda, and my playmate in Hollywood (where I grew up till 12 years old) was a Cuban-American girl whose dad was in Xavier Cugat's band--my mom was her mom's friend, so we listened to his music.

And I was in a band in the 1970s (Any Old Time String Band)--we didn't do any Carmen Miranda songs but we did a Bing Crosby song See You in C-U-B-A from the 1946 film Blue Skies (here's the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNNxZ6R_prXQmn0.html) and at least on one occasion when we performed it I dressed in a Carmen-style outfit with a fruit headdress and necklace. She was such a fashionista!

Absolutely. It's Google. I was with my friend who showed me a pic of a tattoo on her phone. I'm not interested in tattoos and my phone stayed in my bag. But for days afterwards I had tattoo ads come up on every site I accessed. There's a video on KZfaq where a guy opens Facebook and talks about what he wants to buy (random made-up stuff) and within 5 mins a relevant ad pops up. I thinks it's called "Is Facebook Listening" It is scary, I agree.

A lovely performance from the delectable Carmen. It never ceases to amaze me that you have a film here from 1948 and the picture quality is superb. I don't imagine that it has been renovated...and yet, for example, the footage for My Fair Lady was in a shocking state before they put the computers on it.
