Great reaction, couple comments to share; First, when Molly says "I never wanted a cigarette so bad," and Ed says "you've come a long way, baby" I chuckled, it's a reference to Virginia Slims cigarette, which were marketed to women, and like all product advertising, they glommed onto the zeitgeist of the time (in this case, the women's lib movement) with a very well known proto-meme-like ad campaign with that very phrase. Also about that newscaster with flat, slightly monotone delivery, I don't know if that was specifically supposed to be an impression of Walter Cronkite, but it was very much the style of tv news anchors at the time.

Clayton insulted Gordo by saying how convenient it was for him to use the space program to dodge Vietnam. Navy could have taken him out of the program and shipped him off, but they didn’t. Gordo insulted him back by using the My Lai massacre. But we’re in the wrong. Obviously, Gordo more so considering he’s talking to someone who just came back.

Wayne was the anti-1970s guy. The thing is, Karen didn't have the opportunity to react like she really felt. Karen is "ground crew". The original astronauts were showcased as celebrities. So were the wives, which was damn hard on them. There was a huge string of divorces. Karen's first 'job' for the program was to talk Tracey into taking Gordos stuff off the lawn before the press noticed she was throwing him out. Now Tracey is an astronaut, and Karen is left hanging out with Wayne while their SO's are on the moon.
