Timpani is so underrated. He (it) basically carried all the important parts of the score.

Sang this in college; one of my most memorable choral experiences. I was a bass in the choir loft positioned above the bass drum. Unforgettable

Powerful! I always watch the timpani when at a symphony! About 40 years ago I was at Houston symphony that was concerto for timpani and it became so vigorous his color popped out of his jacket! His name was David Wulliger and I’ll never forget.
