In 1935/36, Carl Orff wrote the scenic cantata Carmina Burana, named after a famous collection of song and drama texts written in the 11th and 12th centuries in Middle Latin and Middle High German.
The piece was first performed on 8 June 1937 at the Frankfurt am Main Opera.
