I've seen wels catfish take ducks from the surface. There's stories these catfish will take and drown a child by the leg if big enough.

Never tried surface fishing a lure for catfish but I’m going to give it a go soon. Hopefully the cats here in the uk are fooled as much. There’s an albino cat where I fish that tops 33lb that I’ve been after for a long time. Great video!

I don’t think a lot of people realize that catfish are very much active predators. Too many people think they’re slow bottom feeders which is a shame because they’re some of the most fun fish to have on the end of your line. I’m American so my experience with catfish is flathead and channel cats but I think this is a wells catfish which is even more of a super predator than them so I’m not surprised in the slightest that it hits top water given their reputation.
