Dear Miya, I'm so proud of you for doing your best in a stressful situation. In my school days I participated in some organ master classes...super great experiences, but there is no place to feel more vulnerable...standing in front of a million critics!...and live streaming to boot! I never had to do that! I have no idea who HR1 is, but I would like to apologize for him/her for such a display of (what appears to me) gross insensitivity. I'm guessing HR1 is speaking out of a place of great neediness and pain. I hope you can learn to forgive quickly and let such comments go like water off a duck's back. There are much better ways to spend your emotional energy! A couple of my favorite quotes are, "What other people think of me is none of my business ~Gary Oldman." "You will be a lot happier in life when you learn to avoid J.O.T. behaviours ~ Arlene R. Taylor" J = jumping to conclusions; O = overreacting; T = taking things personally. I'm a huge fan of JDD's master classes. I appreciate her coaching style and how much kindness, encouragement and love she gives to the student. I am so grateful that you had the opportunity to learn from her, and that you have shared your experience with the world! BRAVA!

Cherubino's role was written for a soprano, very demanding for mezzos. And, yes the singer is a soprano.
@taylorperezrhoades3788
@taylorperezrhoades3788 Ай бұрын
The classification of mezzo did not exist in Mozart’s era. It was only soprano or contralto. As such there are certain roles that are listed as soprano roles but are played most often by mezzos, namely Cherubino and Dorabella. Furthermore some roles have been successfully sang by both Sopranos and mezzos such as Zerlina and Donna Elvira.

I love Joyce's shirt. This young woman is talented but needs a new teacher. She is singing wrong repertoire and isn't embracing her true voice and fach and the negative impact is already showing, as she's in college and already has a wobble. Clear sign she's singing too heavy and thick and trying to be a fach she isn't

Miya Higashiyama there are people that criticize to only tear people down and then there are people who criticize because they care and want to see people improve and continue moving forward. People as are you are very passionate about this art form

Miya Higashiyama I'm sure you know the most brutal honest critics are the ones who care the most; to tear you down so you build yourself back up stronger. Don't listen to haters of course. I'm curious, do you consider yourself a soprano now that you have progressed, and if so what kind of soprano?
@stone8193
@stone8193 6 жыл бұрын
Miya Higashiyama interesting! High C/D is still pretty impressive. In my humble opinion it's great you're still considering your fach, but just 2¢ from a random stranger is that we cannot change so much our instrument without some negative impact. Our cords biologically are a specific length, size and thickness. Finding the right fach is pretty important for the best development of the natural voice. Letting the bottom and middle grow might be counterintuitive and weighing down a true soprano voice and even decreasing the size and beauty and range in the long haul, just as it's often that leggiero or lighter tenors, with their often baritone like timbre (but not real size and weight) in the low register, end up harming their development by overblowing the instrument and building up unnecessary weight over time by being characterized in a completely wrong fach. Discovering the natural instrument is key to its best development. Just my opinion, and it's an honor to hear from such a talented singer as yourself
