I agree. To me it sounds like he was trying to mimic the sound of a bagpipe, but I think it actually sounds better than the bagpipe original, as much as I like the idea of the bagpipe.

idk if you wanted an actual answer, but I'm gonna give you one anyway ☺️ basically they are performing in a studio, as opposed to a stage with an audience. since this session is meant to be viewed without much editing after the fact, this is still considered a live performance.
