I was there the first year it opened in '73. I was only seven years old, but a lot has changed since then. Nevertheless, I remember the theme song so well because it would play all through the park on ground-mounted speakers.

I was there, it was my Seventeenth Birthday. My then girlfriend's parents played instruments or were part of the band for the business's party of the Grand Opening. Those were interesting days. I had already planned to join the US Army. Terry and I had a wonderful time there. I still have the chalk drawing of myself that was drawn there that day!

Man I do miss when Carowinds was more like a real theme park than a coaster park. Some cool old stuff back then.

@@morph628 I love carowinds, but looking at some of these pictures of when it first opened, it looks like it was really nice. I looked more homey and nice but right now it feels kinda corporate and stuff. I still love carowinds though

My dad helped in this trailer. His class was told to ride as many rides as possible, so it looked like lots of kids there. I asked him which one he was, and he said he was in one of the background shots.

The train ran around the inside of the park with two stations. The first station was just under the bridge as you enter the park. The other station was at the rear of the park. It was removed in 1976 to reduce the park's operating expenses. They had trams to take you from the parking lot to the entrance, but never a train outside the park to my knowledge.

It's actually better then it ever was.I mean yeah it doesn't have as much charm.But that high level of charm went away with paramount.Still has some decent charm to it.(food).The park in my opinion is better then it has ever been.

Carolina Trains Thunder Road was demolished, but White Lightin' was sold to an amusement park in Johannesburg, South Africa. Now it's called, "The Golden Loop."
