I did the same to be honest mate. I’m glad i’ve narrowed it down to a couple now

i agree with this i was using ronnie rigs and pop ups all sorts, could catch anything so my mate made me a pva mesh bag up on a simple hair rig and caught two carp in like an hour

Last year on my local water, which is a low stock large reservoir of around 65/70 acres with around 200 fish in, I had my best year ever using straight mono hook lengths. Just 15 lb reel line tied directly to the hook with a palomar knot, 2 cm bit of shrink over ther eye and a figure of eight knot the other end for a quick clip. The hair was 3 to 4 cm of soft braid tied to a rig rig which was stopped opposite the barb using a rubber stop. Sometimes I'd slid a small float stop on the mono to mould putty around as well. Used this rig over silt, gravel and sandy spots with a snowman hookbait and caught consistently all season. Easy to tie and extremely cost effective. Worth noting that in more snaggy conditions I would switch to a braid or coated braid hooklink. Of course, I was on fish as much as possible and even cycled around late at night a couple of evening's before a session to find the fish. This is only a starting point though as angling pressure and weather conditions will move the fish, but I could make a well informed decision as to where they were likely to end up if anything changed. Simon Dew Carp Fishing Jesus! Do you have any tips for me as I keep loosing fish due to I fish a lead on the reeds and I get them hooked and they rush into the reeds and I don’t know how to play the drag verry well yet. Do you onow any tips for me to get them out of the reeds quick enough

@@joshplays3494 hi there.. If I understand what you are asking in your question is you are hooking fish and they doing you all time by getting into the reeds and snags.. If so and you pick a swim like this and fish tight to a snag like reeds etc.. You should try adjust your baitrunner tension on the rear of the reel.. Tighten it right up and sit close to your rods and for your clutch for a playing fish I would also tighten this up until you have pulled a fish away from any reeds or snags.. Knowing how much tension to set this while playing fish will come with practice

So what do you do if you can't get your pegs in the ground?

@@michaelleneghan7431 Have you tried the screw in type pegs? I find if you can bang a peg in you can screw these into the ground. Obvously not if its solid gravel or similar, but i don't know of many standard tent pegs that will go in there. Also sometimes just have to accept a pegs only half way into the ground.

Very true John the thing I always try and avoid as well when reeling in is skipping the lead over the surface all the way in. I think it just like drawing a big arrow telling the fish where you are.

I would agree with Patrick as a beginner myself i went from having alot of my hooks fall off on a take, to a bait not presenting aswell as it should be. Knot tying is defenetly something ive been working alot on

HeyHo Deco hi cheers for your comment. It’s really dependant on the lake you’re fishing. Some lakes respond well to spodding and others it can switch the fish off. It always pays to be cautious at first and avoid spodding at bite times like early morning or last light. I’d probably look into the stock of the lake. If it’s heavily stocked then spodding can work as the fish compete for food. I’d still start lightly with maybe 10 spods until you get a bite. Other waters like large reservoirs where the fish are spread out you can spod an area to draw them in. It’s all about reading the situation you’re faced with 👌

My local 10 acre lake, which I've been fishing for 18 months or so, has 120-150 head of carp(?) to 25lb and 9 times out of 10 I just use a light scattering of boilies around my hook bait and this year I've been doing okay. By that I mean, although I've been catching 1 or 2 carp in my 10-14hr sessions (3 on occasions), I've had enough blanks along the way to keep me humble. Those blanks make me believe I could be doing more to, not only attract carp to my spot, but keep them there! Where I'm at with baiting at the moment is exactly as you've detailed above. I decided on this approach from watching ALL your previous videos, my session results and good old trail & error. My last two sessions on my lake: first day blanked, no spodding. Next day, no bites in first 3hrs, spodded out 6 spombs, landed a beauty within the hour! As you say, all lakes are different (as are the days fishing them!) & I think mine is best to start gently at first, then if no joy, spod! Why not, I've got two chances! Thanks again for your videos Simon & the hard work that goes into making them, much appreciated my friend. For me, watching them is like going to carp school, reinforcing & confirming basics (which in itself is a confidence booster) and introducing your ideas and tactics when approaching a new water or session. Unless you have a mate with you, there's not a lot you can do, just land the first fish and hope the second is still on. Luckily this doesn't happen too often

Simon Dew Carp Fishing I understand that but once settled on the lake bed there can’t be a vast amount of difference between the two , they are both near the lead or am I missing something?

Plug E it depends on the type of hooklink you use. I use a semi stiff braid with a balanced bait so the rig lays out flat away from the lead. A solid bag uses a very short supple hooklink so it’s near the lead and doesn’t move far before the fish hits the weight of the lead. Solid bags are good over weed and for casting extreme ranges etc. My semi stiff type rigs are good over harder bottoms like gravel and clay etc. It’s all about being adaptable to the situation really 👍

Yep you're right mate it's already a problem on lots of lakes with massive algal blooms and oxygen crashes causing fish kills. Hopefully angling pressure starts to drop off a little as we go into autumn and the fish get a rest 👍

Haha that's what the tackle companies want you to think but a cheap rod and reel will catch just as many carp as the most expensive in most situations

That's a tricky one as every carp fights differently and each situation has it's own challenges. I'd say make sure you're fishing safely in the first place i.e not too close to the snags, fish locked up and be on your rods as soon as you get any indication!
