No opening of jars, refrigerator, no lifting of a heavy cup, or a light one. Use both hands to lift a medium size cup of coffee. Cutting onions, tomatoes or any food is out the window.-

Thanks Amanda! SUPER helpful video. I'm booked for Carpal Tunnel surgery day after tomorrow. Surgeon will decide whether to do one hand or both just beforehand. You've just given me much more confidence to see if he will do both at once for me. Only challenge will be catching a flight home the day after surgery, as I'm in a remote part of Western Australia and have to travel to Perth for the surgery. Thanks again for you excellent video! 🙂

Can't make coffee?! I'm canceling my surgery! Kidding. You mentioned daily little things, and that's very helpful. Bras ... who thought they were a good idea in the first place? Since it's November, I'm hoping I can wear concealing clothing when I have to go in the public, like jackets. My daughter is getting me some bento boxes and we'll put meals in them so I can microwave the spouse meals. I can't lift a skillet of food with only one hand. Your videos are great and very helpful. Thank you!

I had my bilateral on Monday. It’s Thursday so I’m back revisiting your videos. Again they are so helpful🙏🏾. I’m not getting as much done as I thought but it’s not bad. I think b/c I’ve only been taking the Rx every 6 hours and nothing in between. Ice pack & elevation works great!

Glad to find your videos! Thanks for addressing the bra issue! I won't have help all the time so have to figure things out. I've ordered some sports bras to see if they will work. I'm going nuts trying to figure out how I'll maneuver things with 1 hand. Having ulnar nerve surg (elbow) done first followed by carpal tunnel when first arm is healed.

I am sowmya, sandeeps,s wife heree.....Had bilateral CTS surgery and your video is a therapy which I just stumbled upon yesterday night ... I too share similar thoughts, absolutely hv a caretaker if going for bilateral..for us as we both are full time working parents in a different country, I made sure my parents are around , just for added support.. surgery definitely worth it. And I vouch for bilateral CTS at the same time, definitely don't regret it ...of course we should hv a support system. In place

This is not the norm. I had the surgery done two days ago on just the right hand. So much pain the first night (no good sleep) and second day. I just want folks to know it will hurt afterwards and to not have false hopes for no pain right afterwards!!! Especially having both hands done.

You're very lucky. My left hand was no issues but my right hand was absolute agony. Lasted 5 days of pure pain.

I just had my right hand done yesterday, surgery was only 12 minutes long. I can wiggle all of my fingers today, I can text using my pointer finger, but, i couldn’t put my bra on myself, I had to have my husband help me. I am just wearing stretchy athletic pants as i can’t pull up my jeans with my right hand. I can do my makeup but i can’t dry or curl my hair as i am right handed. I haven’t had any pain yet, but just a slight jolt or twinge. I was told not to push or pull anything with my hand for 2 weeks, and not to lift anything over 1 lb the first 2 weeks. It has been a good experience so far. I’m looking forward to getting my left hand done next. Hopefully I will be able to play my guitar again and be able restart my lessons. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I’m a little bit worried… at 75 I don’t have the agility that I used to… also I’m not going to get anything except Tylenol for pain because of other meds that I take… However I did have rotator cuff repair a couple of years ago, and did ok with that…

@@franhar8292 no problems at all… didn’t need any pain meds. I was able to wiggle all my fingers at night after surgery. I could knit in a few days… the only problem that I encountered was a stitch accidentally left in that should have been removed … physicians assistant took my stitches out and applied a bandage over the site… I returned a week later to have my surgeon “ dig” out the buried stitch…

My boyfriend is in excruciating pain 4 weeks later. Showering, dressing, peeing, making food, etc. He had his right (dominant) hand done on June 5 and today is July 4. He's going to start physio next week. He is SO depressed with not being able to do anything and cries frequently from all the pain. 🤷‍♀️

I’m not a doctor but I’ve heard of this happening to a family member and it needed to be revisited. She went 6 weeks with severe pain and cried everyday finally she had had enough and went back to the doctor around week 7 they found out that it was an incomplete Release and they needed to do revision surgery which was more because they had to not only go back in there they had to make a whole new incision on top of the one she already had. So she dealt with so much pain. I would recommend seeing how it goes about week 5 or 6 then follow up with the doctor. Hope this helps not to scare you.

It all depends on the person but driving is something you do not do right after post op surgery. Swelling and pain will most likely keep you home. The key is to keep the hands from moving mad bending.

You can't open a door and it's all wonderful... you are hysterical. Don't do bi-lateral surgery it's a bad idea. You should not lift ANYTHING that weighs more than 5lbs for 2 weeks after surgery.

@@amandanorris6616 There are many reasons to not do bi-lateral surgery. I do understand why some people with very hands-on jobs couldn't afford to go through recovery twice. With both hands wrapped you can't wipe your own butt. There are limitations on everything because you use your hands for almost everything. With one hand I struggled opening packages to try and cook for myself, trying to keep it dry and wash myself in the shower was not a lot of fun. I can't imagine driving with both hands wrapped. Aside for all of that my main reason is I wanted to understand the recovery and limitations before doing my dominate hand, after all surgery is optional.

Attitude and choosing strength and fortitude. Also, she said she had several surgeries. I know what that is like, and it grows you up and your tolerance for pain. So, yes, it's possible :)

@@jac1161 My point was anyone considering doing both at the same time should seriously consider the consequences. I had trouble showering with one hand, and I can't imagine bathroom duties with both hands wrapped. If you got someone to wipe your ass and take care of you, no problem. There are people in much worse physical condition than someone with badges on their hands, so can you get through this, sure. I highly doubt that any surgeon recommends doing both hands at the same time, in my case it's not about fortitude, it's was about listening to the doctor who told me don't do both hands at the same time for the above stated reasons. Like I mentioned above, some peoples financial circumstances, job situation, living situation, help situation can affect this decision.
