Loved your reaction! This is why "Close to You" was their first #1 hit and why people my age fell in love with Carpenters in the 70s. This is beautiful music that you just don't hear today. Glad so many young people are getting chills and teary-eyed when hearing this talented group. RIP dear Karen. Your voice was the best ever!!

Karen was an angel. Her voice is incomparable. And Richard's arrangements and harmonies...!

Absolutely loved your reaction! At the first sound of her voice I thought I noticed it might have taken your breath for a second. Understandable! On the day that she was born the angels got together and decided to create a dream voice come true. Now those angels are enjoying her ANGELIC voice. Rest in peace beautiful Karen. I'm not a man to shed a tear easily but 50 years later she still gets me!

My favorite female voice in music when I was growing up as a kid in the 70's and 80's. Her voice, for me, is magical. Keep smiling 👍😊

Quality Carpenters siblings. Karen's voice is one of the best and Richard brother is a great producer. " Yesterday Once More " is also excellent.

Lyrics and music by the great Hal David/Burt Bacharach, who wrote many great songs including The Look of Love which was made a hit by Dusty Springfield. Another highly recommended female vocalist is Lara Fabian. Check out Adagio from the Lara with Love concert.

Regardless of composer, you're still experiencing one of the greatest American singers. I don't say that lightly.

Burt Bacharach song, previously recorded by Richard Chamberlain, Dionne Warwick and Dusty Springfield. But it never went anywhere until Richard Carpenter's arrangement and Karen's voice.

Im on my late 60s, so remember KC very well on the radio and TV specials. She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Richard, her brother, was a terrific arranger but KC's voice was discovered by Herb Alpert in 1969 which began their road to fame. Richard convinced her that her best singing voice was contralto, 'the money is in the basement'. I believe KC's, voice, especially contralto, was the best female voice ever. Try listening to a long list of her songs. No auto-tune, stripping, gimmicks, or screaming. Her nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice made you listen to her. She had no professional voice training. John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant that she had a lovely voice. Every female harmony in all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard. They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she received 4 grammys. She was also recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. She never knew true love, nor how good she really was. KC was a one of a kind female vocalist with the voice of an angel. She was never happy with way she looked. She had a few friends, her good friend was Dionne Warwick. She had serious onset of anorexia in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia.

She is one of the 3 people where I remember precisely what I was doing when I heard of their passing. John Candy and Lucille Ball are the other 2. For Karen, I was listening to the radio at home when I was in the 10th grade after getting back from school. Lucille Ball, I was listening to the top 40 songs of the weeks on the radio. John Candy, I was waiting in line at the University of Toronto for a work station to become vacant

I would like to introduce you to another group. They are very different from The Carpenters, but I think you would enjoy them. They are called Home Free and the cover various genres of music. They have done a cover of Boyz II Men's End of the Road that is excellent. They have also done Take Me Home Country Roads and Thank God I'm a Country Boy by John Denver and Can't Stop the Feeling by Justin Bieber, so that gives you an idea of the wide range of genres they cover. And they do them all well.

Greatest song about when, you totally fall in love with someone new. And they probably don’t know it. And when, you just don’t care if you get your heart broken. Because……..they are just so fine! You just can’t help it. You are walking on air.

COMPOSED WAY BACK, IN 1962-, BY BURT BACHARACH, & HAL DAVID. 1ST SUNG IN '62, LATER IN '68, BOTH WERE TOTALLY UNSUCCESSFUL. IT WASN'T UNTIL RICHARD RE-ARRANGED IT & CORRECTED THE PITCH FOR KAREN, THEN THE SONG BECAME A CLASSIC , & THE #2 SONG OF 1970, JUST BEHIND, " BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER " , BY SIMON & GARFUNKLE.----------------------MJL, 75 Y/O
