Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZfaq, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZfaq. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZfaq, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Shawn, nice reaction and information. It was a sync. The giveaway is always the absence of microphones. It’s a beautiful song, Karen was using her feet only to emulate the sound. I’m going to recommend a truly live performance from the previous year, 1970. Later I will also recommend a current singer, also 20 like Karen was in the Medley I’m going to recommend. She too has a voice beyond her age, and well, later. My recommendation is for the Carpenters on the Ed Sullivan Show in November 1970. It was a Veterans Day special. Filmed at an Army Hospital, outside with vets in the audience. They performed The Bacharach/David Medley. It was full live with Karen on drums. Mikes are everywhere. It doesn’t sound like the album version. You will enjoy this no end. I’ll use keywords as links have been failing. Carpenters Bacharach Medley Sullivan Walter Reed Use the video from the Sullivan channel it’s the best quality. I’ve never seen it taken down and I’ve recommended it many times. It’s just a pure joy. Burt Bacharach with numerous partners including Hal David wrote hundreds of hit songs including this group from the 1960’s. Enjoy and Merry Christmas, Joe

I have a fan theory: Karen always called herself a drummer who sings, and her passion was the drums before she ever became a singer, but management wanted her out front, singing, not hidden behind a drum set. I think her no longer playing the drums on the band's records contributed to her eating disorder. If she had been allowed to continue her passion, and she was a great drummer, I believe Karen could have overcome her illness and perhaps still be with us. Then again, I could simply be dreaming. Her death was a true shock to the world. ❤✌

An oboe looks a lot like a clarinet. The major difference is that a clarinet has a single reed in a plastic mouthpiece whereas the oboe has a "double reed" which gives it a more nasal sound. The other instrument that has a double reed is the bassoon which is much larger and thus, lower pitch but still has a somewhat nasal sound.

I think sometimes there is a projected backing track, but the singer adds the vocals live. I'm not in the business so can't confirm that. You can tell when they are miming though. Andy Williams was huge too, with a fine tenor voice, he had plenty of hits you could check out.... Can't help falling in love with you, Home loving man. May each day - ( his theme song) If you want another carpenters track, you have to consider Goodbye to love, and Close to you. Maybe their Ticket to ride. Lot of gold still in them hills.

Something about this song. If I had to pick one Carpenters song (and thank god I don't), this would be it. Her vocal control, the way she grows those notes - how she sings through half-phrases others would sneak a breath for... It's maybe not the best song they recorded - it needed a bridge maybe - but what's there is gold. And Karen settles into it and makes it glow.

Theme from movie "Lovers and Other Strangers"...trust me, the song is way better than the movie lol. Karen was 21 and very healthy then. Sad... and she's on the drums...sitting but she could really play the hell out of them. it may have been a live performance because often KZfaqrs sync up the record with the video "Tape."

Flip a coin with the Andy Williams Show. Sometimes they were overdubs, but most often they were either performed live with a band or the studio orchestra, or sung live with a backing recording.

Either way the magic of Karen Carpenter is prevalent. BTW this is pre recorded! You are correct, they went to a movie in Toronto and Richard heard this and immediately knew that it would go with Karen's voice. He immediately called the record label and said 'get me this song'....no one would turn down a Carpenters song as everything they touched turned to gold.

Beautiful. You don't need permission from the original artist to do a cover of a song. As long as you pay the associated licensing fees which ensures the artist gets a share of the royalties, anyone can cover anyone else's songs. What you cannot do is try to claim credit for a song or even parts of a song that you didn't write. This is where some artists get into trouble.

Karen was a great singer but considered herself a drummer first. I suppose that's why she behind the drums. It looks like she just using the kick drum on this song. Bands usually lip synced on TV shows at this time. Andy Williams was a singer who had a TV variety show. Two popular songs he had were 'Moon River' and 'Born Free'.

donaldriddle230, sometimes they play a video of a band singing live, but they dub the studio version over it, and the lips don't match up and the musicians don't match up. I don't blame the artist for that. Also, I've noticed if I fast forward through some talking it will mess up the sync.

Sounds like someone who is resigned to make the best of an arranges marriage, to me! lol Regardless, it is brilliantly arranged and performed! I don't believe in angels, but if I did, Karen would be their voice coach! ;-] Live or studio? Doesn't matter! Some british dude, who also does reactions, put her in-studio voice and Live voice through an analyser... turns out that sometimes, her voice is even MORE accurate when Live!

Moat of the time back then, and even today, a TV show will play the studio version, and the singer or group will lip sync, and false play instruments. That eliminates the chance of sour notes and off timing. I am one of those people who believes that lip syncing a performance shows a lack of trust. From the host, to have a lack of trust in the groups ability, and for a singer, a lack of trust in their own self or ability. To Me, the best of the best would refuse to lip sync to accommodate an egotistical TV host who is afraid to chance a true live performance, sometimes justifiably, like in the case of some of the crap they call music today, but often times especially back then, they rob the audience of something that could've been so much more. Karen and Richard were the rare breed that could sound great no matter what, and in my opinion, this performance would've been so much better with just Richard playing backing on the piano, and maybe a member of the shows orchestra playing the oboe interludes, while Karen gave us her sweet vocals as only she could. Instead, thanks to Andy Williams, we got a couple people acting along to a recording. By the way, you can Always tell lip syncing. Most of the time, the engineers can't figure out how to get rid of the fade out at the end of the recording anymore than the artist can continue to sync through the fade out. They usually stop singing and take their bows while the recording still has them singing. I've even seen some artists who like to make you think they can play an instrument better than they really can. I've seen at least one Elvis Presley video reacted to, where he appears to be playing the piano at the end of the song, but what he is doing on the keyboard isn't the same as what you are hearing musically. That actually decreased the respect I had for Elvis. Check out his rendition of Unchained Melody Live 1977. Very last notes on the piano are played in a sweep, while Elvis's hands are in the air rather than on the keyboard.
