Liza and I decide to shoot away for the weekend to take on the Carricktown Trail. This grade 2-3 track clambers its way up onto the table-tops of the Old Woman Range ending at Duffers Saddle. Along the way though, things again don't go to plan. We meet a couple also roaming the trail in their old Lux. They eagerly join to make the beginning of our convoy. Further on we come across another Toyota. This old 60 though had been bogged for a couple hours and was in dire need of some help. Me and Roger jump to it to extract this old girl and free Josh from his muddy hole. This delayed us significantly but made for a far more eventful day!

Just got back to Auckland from 3 weeks in Alexandra area, rode my mtb E-bike up from Clyde , not quite to Cairnmuir, should have watched this video earlier, I would have gone further to the lake, it was an Awsome Fast down hill run back to Clyde 😊

The north is a different vibe for sure. A relaxing beautiful i like to put it. Still though, those coast lines are amazing but the south just vibrates with adventure.

Gate was locked at the top last time I went up past Sheehey Lake. You can drive across that paddock on the flats and drop down a cattle track into the Fraser Weir but unfortunately there is now a locked gate to cut across to the Fraser Dam.
@4X4MonthlyNZ
@4X4MonthlyNZ 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah found a couple locks along the way, just turned around and went exploring elsewhere. Went back a few days later and explored into Fraser dam but kinda was a bit meh haha thought there was going to be a slightly tougher trail in there but flattened out. Could make for an ok camp, but i know better places to go

Lost Sheep Adventures if you looking for a place to go for good content you should try Serpentine Scenic Reserve It has a church, water wheel and stamper, mining tunnel, LOTR rings location at Poolburn dam and also abandoned house at the dam that is supposedly haunted by a small child.

@4X4MonthlyNZ 3 жыл бұрын
@@GBlanchy That sounds wicked, was aroound the poolburn area exploring and camping the other week. Sadly it was a couple days before the official season opening so that is going to be one planned for the near future for sure! definitely if i can find this ghost haha

Lost Sheep Adventures lol abandoned house is not to far past the dam wall, go through the gate that says road closed from June to 30th September by order CODC and take the 4x4 track to the rite for about 600m then turn rite again for about 400m. A group of friends were up there fishing and decided to go and explore around the house and as they approached one of them saw a small child in the second story window and thought there must be other people there having a look around but when they went inside there was know one there to be found..

Didn't expect them to last long anyways haha Na so the Nevis, and most of Central, is closed for the colder seasons each year. Everything is usually open start of October though. All info can be found on the DoC sites or even better resources is 4x4Explorer, check the video description. It is the best resource for planning trails.
