Carrie-1976 just caught lightning in a bottle. every performance, the cinematography, practical effects, the score, everything.....the last time I have watched that film was 16 years ago, and that's because it leaves such an affect on me. it's one of the most chilling films I have seen. and haunting.

Also the ending is disturbing and chilling because Sue had a good heart and genuinely wanted to do something nice for Carrie.. and now all of her friends are dead and she's clearly about to be messed up for life... One thing that I do hate though is when Sue's mom is talking on the phone and says "the doctor says that she's young enough that she'll forget all about it" lol like what?? There's a 0% chance that she would forget something like that at her age..

Idk it depends. Trauma effects everyone differently and there is the rare occasion when it causes the traumatic event to be blocked from your memory. But judging by her night terrors I don’t think that’s the case for Sue hahah

@@HauntedHippie yeah I'm not a doctor.. you're right about trauma, it goes pretty deep, the mind can work in mysterious ways.. @@HauntedHippie Angela Bettis played Carrie pretty well in my book since she introduced me to Carrie when I was in Junior High. If she came back in a future Carrie Sequel, she would be in isolation set decades later after the events of Carrie 2002 and she would teach her son how to control his telekinetic powers.

Sue walking in on Carrie after she kills her mother at the end and the house getting destroyed by a rain of stones was in Lawrence D. Cohen's original script for the 1976 film, but didn't make it into the finished product. It was interesting to see it recycled in the 2013 remake.

Nice video! I know I've stated my love for Carrie 1976 in the comment section a million times so I don't have much too much to add lol.. I find Carrie 1976 to be timeless despite feeling old and super 70s.. the film is truly unsettling, creepy, dark, disturbing and depressing.. it gives me a feeling of despair and emptiness throughout the entire film which aren't feelings I normally would like to experience lol, but I respect how the film makes me feel that way every single time after all these years.. for example, Carrie walking into her house after the prom scene with the candles lit all over the house with that haunting organ score playing knowing her mom is hiding upstairs is possibly the most unsettling horror scene for me personally, it gets me everytime.. the filmmaking is top notch IMO..

Another great in depth comparison. I would probably pick 1976 Carrie because the soundtrack, cinematography, Sissy Spacek and some of the other actors performances. Only thing I like about 2002 Carrie is the ending how she survived. 2013 Carrie it was interesting seeing a modernize take on the shower scene, and I like how she reacted to Tommy death and that the gym teacher was spared. Also I agree while I like Carrie 1976 it is a tough sad film, that I rarely return to myself.

I love how each film has its own positives and negatives. I feel like they all have their own little pieces to making a great Carrie but never got all the pieces together on their own. For example the emotional beats of the story hit harder in the 1976 version in my opinion whereas the spectacle of the powers are more satisfying in the 2013 version. I actually love the 2002 version as well because of angels bettis’ performance. It’s really fun to dissect and compare all 3 versions of a single story. Also there’s apparently ANOTHER remake in the works at FX this time they’re planning on making Carrie a limited series with a transgendered Carrie. So I can’t wait for that

I really liked the casting choice for Sue in the 2002 TV movie. It made it more believable for Sue to have sympathy for Carrie because being black, she's probably had experiences of being an outcast and being bullied. So, Sue was able to relate to Carrie at a certain level. To me, that made it more believable. So, casting Kandyse McClure as Sue was a great choice.

Between the three different versions of Carrie: I like the original Carrie (1976) more, with the 2013 version being my second favorite and my least favorite is the 2002 NBC TV film adaptation. Sissy Spacek and Chloe Grace Moretz were supreme as the titular character in their respective films. Angela Bettis in NBC film was okay, but I'm surprised that Sissy's daughter, Schuyler Fisk wasn't offered the role of the titular character of said version. Because, think about it, one of Spacek's daughters stepping in her mother's shoes and dress in a brand new adaptation of said horror movie. That would have been worth watching. I would also take the remakes over that crappy freaking sequel to the OG Carrie film, "The Rage: Carrie 2".

8:04 2013 had a directors cut.. and they fucked THAT SHIT UPPP oh god 😭 there was a petition back then lmfao they had original ideas and even the town destruction scene it was gonna be accurate to the book where one of the twins (they aren’t actually sisters in the original script just friends) trip carrie, after she runs off from the stage right after she gets dumped in blood and heather wasn’t even a main character just an extra with one line.

The criticism that I have for the prom scene in the 2002 version, one that I feel quite on my own about is how it felt so distanced from Carrie inflicting a telekinetic rage and revenge. The destruction and killing can just be disregarded as falling and sparking lights, people scream and run everywhere to not be crushed or electrocuted wanting to get out and then one light crashes starting the fire etc etc… you can even see it as something like an earthquake destruction scene 😭

(Split screen) "eh-heeeehhhhh!" I always enjoy your factoids and perspectives! In spite of its problematic elements, the DePalma version always scared the daylights outta me, especially Piper Laurie's performance. It really hits close to home as I spent my teenage years around family members who had similar religious fanatic attitudes, so the movie always gave voice to my paranoia and frustration with that during a time when no other piece of mainstream media seemed to critique that mentality on quite an acute level (and this was as recently as the early-to-mid 2000s) I read the book later on in high school and I'll definitely say that the novel is the best way to experience the story.

I still maintain 2013 is my favourite version, as a fan of the book. Not that I deny the original film is a staple on horror and a beautifully made film. I respectfully disagree about Chloe Moretz, her awkward body language reminded so much of mine when I was in school. That in a way her outburst in the prom was more satisfying to me, as it was like my revenge fantasy come true when I was bullied at school. I would go for the theatrical ending too, I think Sue's monologue fits well with the overall message. I could've done without the grave crack and rock music though, just cut to credits when she puts the rose on the grave. As for Ansel Elgort, I initially thought the same thing however Chloe did work with him again 4 years later in November Criminals, so I doubt she'd work with him again if he said that. She also played love interest of about two other actor at time of her claim. Agreed about the shower scene in '76, DePalma had close up of Nancy Allen shaking her breasts to the camera, to me that was obvious fetishism no matter how he contextualises it.

@@edgarbachman9037 the 2002 version is honestly the closest sans the ending. I’m confused why people think the 2013 version is closer when its like 90 percent a shot for shot remake of the De Palma film. They even had to legally credit the original screenwriter from how much they took from his film. The 2002 film kept the town massacre, had a Carrie whose personality and demeanor more resembled the book, and kept the after the fact investigation framing device among other things

Since i am a male and my perception of the male gaze subject matter is probably not up to today's standards, I want to learn how to be better and so I have a question, and I really don't intend any disrespect: Do you consider the showerscene to be unrealistic? To clarify: I didn't consider the showerscene to be intended to sexualise women. I considered it to be an insight in a location where younger women are together unsupervised. I don't think it's realistic that women are wandering around naked for no reason, but did think it could be realistic that in a gyms shower, women could exploit the vulnerability of peers for the purpose of bullying (again: because the shower room is for obvious reasons, unsupervised). I hope I make myself clear. Since i was being bullied at school and the gym showers were for me actually a place of some terror, I could totally sympathize with that scene. Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

In cinema start of movie, boobs smack in your face for absolutely no reason at that point, doesn't really elicit a sense of phwoar, more huh? doesn't it? I get the misdirection, but I don't think it worked as well as De Palma intended maybe?

Then I Saw Carrie (2013) With My Pals & It Was Alright, Should've Done More With The Story Or Should've left deleted scenes in the film.

For me Carrie 2002 was closer to the book but it was low budget. Carrie 1976 was well acted Carrie 2013 felt a little too polished The actress from 2002 is probably my favorite Carrie.

Chloe Grace Moretz is a great actress, but she didin't fit in as Carrie. Her look is kind of classic pretty girl teen cover magazine, and even she is dressed like a nerd or a misfit or antiquated it doesn't fit. Anyway, the original (1976) is unbeatable, iconic.

The 1976 original version was excellent. Your negative discussion about the nudity at the beginning is not justified in my opinion. The slapping by the gym teacher of that awful bully who swore at the teacher twice right in front of the other students was "dramatically justified," although illegal. The dragging out of the time it took for Carrie walking from the prom to her home and through her house after the car explosion was far too long, however. My favorite part was of the film was Sue's dream sequence with that staggeringly beautiful flute soli which was extremely dramatic and heart-felt, and the shock-scare was unexpected in 1976 - especially in a film theater surrounded by a large audience. It was a very disrupting moment to a full viewing audience - which is especially "exciting" at the time. I don't recall that kind of thing being done so often as to simply be "expected" to happen. Sue's waking up to her absolutely well-acted nightmare of Carrie's dead, bloody hand and arm was extremely dramatic, and it stayed with you as a most disturbing and depressing moment since it is assumed that mental issue would stay with her for the rest of her life - which she really didn't deserve in my opinion. I did enjoy your comments and review! I never watch re-makes of original films. I assume they cannot make an original, well-done film, any better. My opinion at any rate.

@Haunted Hippie you get a thumbs down for me for not liking the original 1976 Sissy Spacek version of Carrie. Up until I was the age of 16 back in 1993 I was never into anything scary. After having been a fan of sissy Spacek, since I was three years old in 1980, yes, my parents took me to the movie theater in 1980 to go see Sissy as Loretta Lynn in Coal Miners Daughter. I instantly became a fan of sissy right then. Then when I was 16 and saw Carrie for the very first time on VHS, I instantly became a super fan of Sissy because of her portrayal of Carrie White. Yes, the TV movie that aired in 2002 on NBC basically followed more from the novel than what was omitted from the 1976 film adaptation and of course the 2013 basically followed suit between the novel and carbon copied from the 1976 version but I think the 1976 Version Was Way better

3:07 So he could say "BEFORE YOU WERE LEARNING HOW TO SPELL YOUR NAME I WAS BEING TRAINED TO PULL HORRIBLE PRANKS ON BULLIED AND ABUSED KIDS." 6:24 Well at least the filmmakers were proud that they got to use their Adobe After Effects free trial. 6:44 So she can firmly say "Howdy do fellow kids." 17:02 This really Shows modern movies that they use way too much CGI and there are plenty of other ways to do stuff that's not CGI. BTW I also find it interesting learning about the different ways filmmakers accomplished certain things that today would just be done with CGI because before CGI they had to get creative to be able to show different things in films. I am not trying to be a purist and say that CGI should never be used but I think we can all agree it gets used way too much nowadays. 27:00 Well at least now you can be able to say: This is my gift, my curse, who am I, I'm Spider-Man? 31:27 Agent Smith form Matrix Reloaded would be proud.

Chloe Grace Mortez being pretty in HIGH SCHOOL isn’t the problem. It’s just because Margret thinks everyone and everything is a sin so she makes her daughter be “unkept” so she doesn’t attract any boy. That’s the problem for me. And even then Carrie is described as a “frog” and it’s a key part in the story. So yeah my opinion.

can i ask you an honest observation I don't feel like carrie is something you can remake theres not much you can change really I have to say I like carrie not being to control her powers in the 2002 version it makes me sad that she kills people in the 1976 version because she thinks their laughing at her when their not and also one interesting thing about the 2002 version chris actually almost does not go through with it for a second when she how happy carrie is but then her billy kind of influencs her to do it anyway I think it shows a domestic violent relationship quite well

Honestly I prefer Carrie 2013. In the original, the second I saw- you know, in the locker room- I couldn’t watch anymore. I’m considering watching it, but I just can’t look at these things. The 2002 version, I haven’t exactly watched it yet other than the opening scene, but I’d like to try it (of course skimming through it at times), now going to the latest one, same as what Sue said at the start of the 2002, everyone wants to belong. Chloe Grace Moretz really gives the right vibe for that, but I do agree she is probably too cool to play Carrie. I also like that her emotions explode during the prom scene but I do think that her mouth being open so much is weird. And I like that she uses more arm movement it really shows that she is really truly angry, and the way that blood goes into her eyes is cool as well. I also like that they didn’t show anything in the locker scene, it’s really just a more comfortable scene to watch than the first. Her acting is also amazing. I think she shows emotions really well. This movie shows rage, others show sadness, fear, joy and things like that. I also love how she doesn’t show much regret until she is right outside her house and the way the camera moves around is so cinematic. There’s tons more to say about this movie and the other too but I’m getting bored lol

Love this comparison!!!! I will say that both the original and the 2013 version have very heavy rad trad Catholic energy surrounding Margret. One thing that I noticed was the use of the very grotesque and gruesome images of the saints and Jesus, which is very Catholic lmao. Also, the whole thing about Margret harming herself in the newest version kinda calls back to very traditional religious sects that use pain as a way to atone for sin, a thing that is heavily stated in Catholic teaching. Anywho, I dunno what it means but this movie is one of my favorites lmao.
