After Doug accidentally breaks the bed, he and Carrie have to borrow Deacon's twin beds and it turns out they are pretty comfortable once you get used to them! Meanwhile, Arthur spies on the other neighbors.
From Season 5 Episode 25, 'Bed Spread'. After their bed breaks and Doug and Carrie are temporarily sleeping in separate beds, they start to like the idea of doing things alone.

My dream is to have separate bedrooms if we live together so we each have our own space. & come together like visiting each other’s place haha. But he’s a cuddler and will only agree on separate beds ❤️😂 Time will tell

My hubby and I designed our own house with 2 master suites for this reason. Having our own bedrooms/bathrooms has worked out beautifully. We are opposites -I like a nightlight (he likes pitch black), I like the cat in the bed (he doesnt), I like the ceiling fan on all night (he doesnt), he likes the bedroom door closed and I like it open, I like to read before sleeping but the light bugs him, he likes a minimalistic bedroom and I like all the extras-big, soft pillows on the bed, pretty window treatments, etc....This works out great-sometimes he visits me, sometimes I visit him. Makes for better sleep, better marriage and great love life:)

Having a good marriage/relationship has nothing to do with sleeping in one bed. When i lived together with my ex, i had my own bedroom. Sometimes we slept in one bed, sometimes we didnt. I have severe insomnia and my ex worked night/evenings. It was way less stressful to be apart. We loved it.

@SunniCalifornia it wasn't very prevalent irl, the reason separate beds were used in the old sitcoms is if they shared a bed it suggested sexual activity or a level of intimacy deemed too scandalous for tv back then, I think.

Jewish bcouple or some /most of them sleep in separate beds for two weeks of the month.they cant even kiss, touch,hug,hold hsnds yet they have great, intimate marriage.im Hindu and my husband Jewish but we practicec every two weeks but we kiss and hug since im not Jewish .This and not eating pork are some of the few things ive adopted.There are hindus who dont eat pork anyway and i rarely eat them.My husband on the other hand doesnt eat beef in our house and he agrees to be vegetarian at least once a week since i do that.were both not devout but whatever we can do sincerely we do it.

U can just go over to your wife's bed if you want cuddle ,like what Doug and Carrie did and can always cuddle on the couch,join the beds.Separate beds does not break up a marriage.lack of intimacy, communication, faithfulness,honesty and selfish,uncaring, unsupportive breaks up a marriage.My father was a lousy husband to my mother didn't cheat or abuse but was uncaring,selfish and undependable

Some couples do really sleep in separate beds, often for life of their sham marriages, like when they separate their finances, built on wrong motives.. The toxic marriage of Doug and Carrie...even thoigh this show had some funny moments. The marriage business is economical, not built out of "love."

Hey, we designed a home with 2 master suites and LOVE it. Nothing about our 27 year old marriage is a sham so watch your words. Dont assume things. I agree with you about finances, however-youre either a team and trust each other or you dont. We are one of the few couples that we know who have always combined finances. We are also one of the few couples out of all of our group still married and quite happily :) The bedroom/bathroom thing works beautifully and keeps love,quality sleep, privacy, mystery and good s*x in our marriage.

To me their marriage seems happy, two people who love each other but also need space from each other. Not glued together, not clingy. Would work fine with me!
