American Idol 2005 winner Carrie Underwood performed a cover of George Michael's "Praying For Time" on American Idol: Idol Gives Back 2008. It was pre-taped on April 6, 2008 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and aired on April 9, 2008 to an average of 17.6 million viewers.

Most of these "idols" are barely tolerable, but Carrie Underwood is a legit, incredible singer with a unique voice. You have to have real pipes to cover this tune and do it justice like she does.

This is not dreadful and oh by the way,her her sold out tours and her Vegas residency which has been sold out every run she does says her voice is not dreadful,it’s incredible. Her awards and accolades that you could only dream of having says otherwise. I bet none of you could ever do this song justice.Forbid someone sing this song that has talent and vocal ability,forbid. Just to increase the impact, I would have amplified the violins a bit, because there is a melancholic strain throughout the composition , which might not have been fully expressed by just the piano.

I totally agree. Quite honestly, whenever Carrie sings, to me any backup singers (or music for that matter) is just background noise. I would like nothing better than to at once point see Carrie release an a cappella album. Just her, nothing else.

friggya,your comment was in very poor taste.George Micheal is a fantastic performer,and with a song like this,it is very hard to beat the original.Sunwoh had a very valid opinion,given that it was backed up with reaasoning as to why they liked it.On the finale,george micheal did give a great performance.That said,I too think that Carrie's version was better,but not to an extent that you are given any right to make predjudicial comments about anyone(not that you would have this right anyway).

Funny,it has enough soul to me. Carrie is sitting not competing like this other girl was,huge difference.Carrie has an incredible voice and the least you could do is respect her talent instead of trashing her. Carrie has spoken about her love for George several times,this is not someone that is just giving mere lip service to look cool,her love for him is genuine.
