hi carrie-- regarding marriage, i used to be kinda against it or at least think it was pretty silly. but as i've gotten older i've realized there are a lot of benefits to it. taxes is the most obvious but another big thing is social security. obviously no one wants to think about this, but if y'all stay together and one of you eventually dies, you will not be able to collect the others social security. however, if you were married for at least 10 years (even if you got divorced) you could collect the others social security. if you bought property together, getting married would also make things way easier if you ended up splitting up or one of you died (you can create a contract for this though). not being married also creates other challenges if one of you became very sick, as far as making care decisions. no one wants to think about this stuff because it's all sad and awful but it's life. so just something to consider.. i assume a lot of people just ask you this because of the *wedding* part of marriage/thinking it totally changes your relationship but there's a lot of boring legal benefits of marriage lol.

This!! People always say, “oh it’s just a piece of paper. We don’t need it.” But that piece of paper provides so many legal benefits in times of trouble 😕

I'm not sure about every state in the U.S., but in some states you can fill out Healthcare Power of Attorney (HCPOA) paperwork and have it notarized in order to become the legal decision-maker for your significant other (even if you're unmarried), or anyone else for that matter, should that person become unable to make or verbalize healthcare decisions for his/her own care. It can be filled out for a friend, family member, or anyone else who wants you to be their healthcare representative/decision-maker should they become incapacitated. As far as I understand, marriage (in the U.S. at least) only really provides tax benefits if each person is in a different tax bracket. The person making a significant amount less than his/her spouse will help bring the other person's income down to a lower tax bracket which will equate to paying less in tax money if taxes are filed jointly.

Doesn't help for this trip since it's too late, but when you're traveling and have a bunch of sweaters/jackets that are bulky, I'd really recommend picking up some vacuum bags that just have a pump you can bring with. It really cuts down on the bulk of things that are mostly just air.

20:11 - I am now 35 and a divorced woman at 30. I am constantly struck with societal standards regarding marriage. My first marriage was really hard and well, I don’t need to get into it, but after ten years I woke up and got out of an unhealthy relationship (and yes, we tried to ‘work on it’ a few times). Anyway, I am in a very fulfilling and healthy relationship now, and it feels like we always get side eyed for not having gotten married yet. We do have intentions of matrimony (on our schedule) but, I don’t know what is hard to understand about long-term committed relationships. My not being remarried while applying for new housing, meeting new people, and introductions in general, are weird. I think commitment, in whatever form that takes, is beautiful and should not go unnoticed ❤ love you guys and wish y’all a happy and safe trip!

I love hearing about your relationship with Drew, I swear my husband and I are so similar to you both! We don’t view marriage the same way as most people (as in basically for the purpose of having children) because we do want to live a somewhat “alternative” lifestyle with a ton of freedom and no real desire to “settle down”. It is so rare to find people with a similar mindset and I just love that I can find that when watching your videos 🥰

Would you considering fostering a pet? It’s a great way to love on an animal without the commitment/cost of owning. I travel in between fosters and can coordinate another foster parent taking the animal short term if I need. It’s a great way to help the shelters and animals in your community. I’ve found it very rewarding.

If you choose to come to Scandinavia I'd really recommend that you do not go with a grouptrip and that you do not only stay in the capital cities. I'm Danish and as much as Copenhsgen have to iffer, it is wastly different from most of the country, because it is more international. I'd say the same goes for the swedes and norwegiens too. Just know that regardless where you go, nost people dpeak a eecebt amoubt if English and will typically be very accomodating if you just politely ask for directions, recommendations for places to go, etc.

My sister moved to London from the US on a Global Talent Visa. It was always her dream to move to England....and she was granted the talent visa. However....she moved back to the US after less than 2 years because even with her 6 figure salary...it was just too expensive for her to live there comfortably on her own and she said the taxes were a nightmare...they took so much money out which goes to the royal family and all that and it just blew her mind how she felt "poor" making the money she was a year and it still felt like it wasn't enough. She moved back home and is making nearly double here in SoCal than she was in the UK (working for the same company this entire time by the way). It's not easy at all.....she went through a lot to get that visa approved so for her to move back so quickly...it really showed me that it's a lot harder than it seems to live there even though it's a beautiful place to visit. She lived in San Francisco and NYC too before moving to London and said London by far was the most expensive for her. On the other note....my boyfriend and I never really fight either. Sometimes I get moody from PMS or something but other than that...he's amazing. We were friends for like 8 years before we started actually dating and being in a relationship 2 years ago. We want to get married....but honestly I just feel more pressure being a woman about the kids thing than getting married because my boyfriend and I are both 38 so for me....I don't want to wait too much longer to try for kids because of the whole biological clock thing....if it wasn't for that I would be good waiting a few more years because my boyfriend and I are enjoying our relationship just the 2 of us right now but it is something I have to think about. With marriage though...I want a super small wedding anyways because frankly...I think a big wedding is not how I want to spend my money. It's more for me about saving and building a future together than spending a lot on one single day.

I always find the budget thing interesting. Me and my wife have a joint acc but we don’t use it. I earn less, and the bills mostly come out of her acc, the streaming services come out of mine. So in case anyone is interested in a different way, if you’re moving in with your significant other, we total all our bills up, total all our income up, and then split what’s left as spends, so we have the same disposable income each month. It generally means that I transfer money across each month. We also take turns when we go out etc, we split big purchases, and we both like having our own bank accounts.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think people in healthy stable respectful relationships shouldn’t be having big knock down drag out fights. I think that level of like disrespect and anger toward your partner isn’t healthy. Yeah you can get mad and have arguments and disagreements, but screaming at and insulting someone you’re supposed to love is not healthy imo. Like respectful partnerships should be talking things out
