It was amazing to sit down and hear stories about the Lions Drag Strip from Rick Lorenzen. He had a wealth of car knowledge and a number of funny tales about the strip.

In 1957 my dad took me to Lions. He was racing his 49 Ford, with a 365 cid Cad motor with a McCulloch Supercharger. It had a Hydramatic my dad modified for better shifting. He was an Engineer at McCulloch Corp. Later from our Torrance home by Redondo High, I could hear Dragsters at Lions and Dirt Cars from Ascot on warm summer nights. My buds and I drove to Lions and snuck in for the last hour of so of racing on more than one Saturday night.

My first time to the drag was at Lions ,1967 . My next door neighbor owned the Pure Heaven altered. Been going ever since.

I was raised at Lions Drag strip as well. My dad got his UDRA BB/fuel coupe license at the beach. Driving the former Moneyham and Sharp coupe after Elgin Freeman purchased it. My dad drove fuel altereds at the beach as well. I have some great memories there. Thanks for sharing what you do and love.

I visited the museum a few weeks ago with my friend Mike Cook.. Unbelievable.. If you love drag racing like I do then this is the holy grail of all the drag racing museums. They are opening up to the public real soon please come and see drag racing history as it was in SoCal.

My uncle took me to lions all the time .when I worked for toys r us the strip was gone and I picked up freight at the railyard

Rode a 250cc Suzuki bike stock like it Lions during the 60s got the trophies to prove it

Was there in :71 as a 16 y o. Got to see Don Cooks "Damn Yankee" funny car break the track record. But I dont see any reference to Don Garlits accident . But I do LOVE the museum and its contents!!

That looks like a very brief look at High Tucker's Street Roadster at 5:45 with a hemi. In '64 it had in Oldsmobile because the B&M Hydro transmission couldn't hook up to the hemi yet without a bellhousing.
