This week, we finally install a proper steering wheel and proper seat on the Briggs 5 horse equipped rat rod wagon. The steering wheel makes the drivability much better, but the seat raises the seating position, making turns on pavement even more difficult. Thanks for Watching!

Adding a Lead block to the front would help with the steering A LOT. trust me i used to do that with tractors when i haev a load on the back i just bolted a block of Lead on the front and.. Man that stuff helps.

Great job with the wheel and seat guys. Y'all could use like an old steel 5 or 10 lb weight on the front and cut it to look like a model-a grill! Would solve 2 problems at once.

Put a "mini keg" fuel tank on the front and a small vacuum fuel pump. This might add enough weight out front to help with the steering. It'd look pretty sweet as well.

Solid steel front bumper would help with putting weight up front, and protect the wheels, steering arms, and engine in case of a crash (or for an offroad adventure... Ike)

+Isaac it'll be fine y'all wouldn't have to add weight if you would lay the front axle back about 10-12 degrees and add caster to it. that's why race karts work so well. when you turn it picks up the inside tire and let's it spin.

I think u guys should literally put a piece of tape down the center of a gokart frame and EACH of u pick a side, then the other person cant touch the other side!!! Basically each of you mod one side of the cart HOWEVER you want to while the other person does the otherside, then at the end let us vote on the better side and winner and the loser has to change there side to match the winners side!!! Lol kinda hard to explain what im trying to say but that should do :)

Only drive one rear wheel (peg leg) to eliminate the understeer. Cut the axle, or install a differential. Looks like the steering column could be shortened a few inches too. Neat project regardless.
@nathanharland3375
@nathanharland3375 8 жыл бұрын
They should shorten the steering wheel so they can sit in front of the rear axle to stop the understeer
@TwilightTheShooter
@TwilightTheShooter 8 жыл бұрын
I've owned a one wheel drive go kart and it is not worth it. Every time you turn with the drive wheel on the inside it spins and you get massive bump steer under acceleration and breaking, and honestly one wheel drive wouldn't help the understeer, I would just stick to adding some weight to the front
@Owiko7
@Owiko7 8 жыл бұрын
I have a one wheel drive go cart, I have to disagree, it corners 50% better than it did when it was configured as a 2 wheel drive cart, but I guess it all depends on how the cart is built.
@TwilightTheShooter
@TwilightTheShooter 8 жыл бұрын
+Owiko7 yeah, fair enough, my kart was a death trap tho, it was nearly impossible to ride because of the bump steer and it tried to kill you every time you hit the breaks, fastest thing I've ever ridden tho, not to mention scariest
@nathanharland3375
@nathanharland3375 8 жыл бұрын
+TwilightTheShooter Well I have had both one wheel and a solid axle drive. it's all about tire set up and how you drive it. I had knobies on my one wheel but you couldn't get it sideways, on the solid I had slicks and in order to steer you had to get it sideways

all they need is some caster. lots of it actually... the top of the steering axis should angle towards the rear at least 15* for this application also having a bit more scrub radius can help.. u basically want the inside front wheel to physically lift the inside rear as u turn...a racing mower with a fat guy driving would suffer from the same goofy weight dist. issues but proper steering geometry fixes this without adding weight..

I have an idea for the rat rod wagon, weight distribution for the front to fix the steering. You should build a bumper preferred pointed sort of needle nose in a way or just a custom rat rod bumper. Plus it really needs one for looks and it would bring weight to fix the front end weight problem!

You may have discussed this before, but what kind of transmission are you using in the rat wagon? If you could find an old 50lb tractor wheel weight to add to the front for weight it should help the steering. If both rear tires are pulling at the same time that is whats causing most of the front wheel push. Most of this you already know just adding a few two cents worth in. Peace Guys and Lady.
