When I see him coast in and give up during his 400 IM. Maybe he needs to rethink what his motivation is.

Richard Johnson I don’t think you realize how hard a 400 IM is, it’s not that he gave up or coasted but your body literally cannot move at the end

I have swam the event. He coasted in. He wasn't going to win and he gave up. When you are swimming and your body tells you to go get the person ahead of you and it all clicks. It is a great feeling. When your body and mind has had it and you aren't feeling it during that particular race.. Shutting down is something that happens. I get it, but don't make the kid out to be something he isn't ever going to be. He won't be an olympic champion. I would bet money on that.

If what i found is correct.. Your 200 IM is 2:09.68 and 4:47.20 in the 400 IM. And that is in the recent decade with the changes they have made in the breaststroke and the flip turn backstroke exchanges between the strokes. But, my IM times were faster than yours even 3 decades ago.
