I have always had a special place in my heart for Thundercats, I was thoroughly addicted to watching each and every episode every morning before school. The idea of continuing story lines really sucked me in, I guess preparing me for an adult addiction to soaps. The series was quite dark for a cartoon, the Thundercats constantly fighting Mumm-ra and his demonic concoctions. The only cartoon I have seen that has a similar feel is Sailormoon which has a totally different story line. A few of my friends compared it to He-man and She-ra but I always thought that Thundercats had much more depth and was much darker. All in all Thundercats should be rerun till the cows come home.

Totally JEALOUS that you met Larry Kenney.

Please Netflix, save the Thundercats 2011 reboot.

Great review. I've watched the original 'Thundercats' here, and there, but I was never invested in it as much as 'He-Man', and 'She-Ra'. While it did have it's share of flaws, (As most 80's cartoons do) at least it tried to keep things interesting as it progressed. A shame the 2011 reboot got cut short because it has ALOT of potential, and it could've fixed all the problems the original had. It's cool you that you met 'Lion-O', (Larry Kenney) I met 'April O'Neil'. (Judith Hoag)

I agree that snarf doesn’t belong in that category. He’s very loyal, he’s a good friend, he’s brave not to mention the fact that he actually harnessed the power of the spirit of evil in one of the episodes he is really amazing.

Congratulations on your 100th review, and what a good way to do this special occasion, by reviewing the very cartoon that led to what you are today. Thundercats is pretty enjoyable when I watched it back then, and I still hold a deep appreciation to this. The 2011 reboot is better in a lot of ways, but there are still some problems that I noticed and I am very sure they will get fixed if that series was not CANCELLED! As for the latest one.... well..... let's just say that we have devolved a whole lot since the 80s. Anyway thanks of all the reviews, and I am definitely looking forward for more. Cheers for 2019.

Snarf was the only character I really hated in the series, I liked him better in the 2011 reboot.

That would've been very interesting if Thundercats explored earth's past to find out why their new home planet is called Third Earth. Pumyra is the Thundercats medical person (Everybody needs someone who can fix wouds) plus in one episode it shows that's she's fast too just not as fast as Cheetara.

As a kid one of my favorite toys was a thunder cats sword and glove. While I no longer care for the show, I can appreciate a look back at what once was a part of my life.

Congrats on 100 episodes, man! Glad you made it this far. I've been a somewhat inconsistent viewer for quite awhile, and have come to enjoy the show more and more as it's gotten closer to this point. I'm really looking forward to whatever comes next. As for this specific hundredth episode compared to others I've seen, I think I liked this one better simply because it was the first in awhile that wasn't some mega special-effects-final-battle-crossover-o-thon, but rather a regular episode where you tell us what it was like to get this far with the show at the end. Thanks for that.

Solid - After finding this one decent enough, I remember trying to transition into Silverhawks. That one proved asking for far too much suspension of disbelief. Even at 10.

The 2011 Thundercats is the first Thundercats cartoon I saw when I was little

4:45. This was already covered in detail by the guy at retroblasting: there’s this medella effect that lion-o’s capsule malfunctioned but there is never any visual or spoken evidence for this. The only line is when Jaga mentions the long trip and about using the capsule. He says “some aging may occur” but the way it’s said is very general and sort of throwaway. Like this is just a side effect of it. However again none of the other cats’ pods react this way.

Happy 100th episode, man. And hey, it may have taken you 8 years, but it's all in the journey, not the destination.

I loved the morality part at the end and the final laugh.

I'm still on that theory that was somewhat confirmed in the reboot that Silver Hawks and Thundercats are the same universe and The Space cop was a branch of law enforcement that works with the Silverhawks.

In the UK Thundercats Ho was released on VHS as a full length movie. The story works better as individual episodes though. As one long feature it gets a bit boring and just feels like episodes edited together rather than a proper movie.

Here's something: in 2016 DC published a five issue limited series that had the Thundercats and He-Man and his allies team up against the combined forces of Mumm-ra and Skeletor. The art is beautiful and a blast to read! It is so awesome!!

It's funny you compared the episode "The Tower of Traps" to Dungeons and Dragons, I used that episode as inspiration for a D&D Campaign. My players really enjoyed it.

My impression was always that Humans had advanced and moved on thousands of years ago (possibly post physical) leaving the galaxy behind to animals that they had uplifted or had naturally evolved to sentience, we see many near humans like cavemen and amazons but the only pure technologically advanced human we ever saw was the space cop, all the others were summoned from the past. I also suspected that 3rd Earth wasn't the original Earth but the 3rd home world humans had inhabited with the ancient ruins being more like amusement park theming. In fact going further perhaps humans had turned the whole galaxy into one big amusement park before abandoning it with historical zones created populated by primitive human societies as a living exhibt.

I can't believe he forgot to mention the Lunatak named Amuk, who Luna rides atop.

Well, look at it! Sometimes KZfaq DOES suggest good and interesting videos! I watched Thundercats at a very young age, 10 or 11 (arguably the perfect age for the show), and was hooked. Loved everything about it and still do! The visuals were amazing, the artstyle was so cool and unlike anything I was watching at the time (even He-Man didn't come close, even though Filmation's stock animation was pretty great... and the D&D cartoon was pretty awesome too, but the main characters weren't larger than life like the Thundercats), the awesome (and like you said, METAL) characters and locations, the music, and that opening.. ggaaaaahhhh... Just fantastic. Animation after the intro wasn't as good and oftentimes outright disappointing, but some of the action compensated for that. I *wish* they did a proper reboot, with these same characters, this exact same artstyle. And OMG, yes, Lion-O's entire point is that he's a kid in an adult's body. I don't know why they wouldn't go back to that in the anime reboot. That other thing... we... don't talk about that. Anyways, pretty great stuff, man! Cheers!

I rewatch that show and it’s still good as I remember it. Also, has everyone else forgotten that the sword is basically alive I mean Jaga said it in the pilot. And also when Lino travel back in time to see his dad, how come one of the species look like a normal cat but you know like an alien cat. I’m not questioning it. It’s just very strange to say the least. Still a really good show.

The shows of the 80's may have been mostly toy commercials, but at least they were cool toy commercials. If only history was nicer to the Thundercats like it was to Transformers (save for those live-action movies, but that's another story). There was a lot in this show that the 2011 series could have used if it weren't cancelled, and I mean A LOT of things. Of course, any reboot of an 80's show that isn't Transformers or My Little Pony usually doesn't last very long.

Thanks I needed this. I'm nearly 110 eps into Thundercats and my experience has been mixed. I wasn't sure if this cartoon had some problems or if it was just me not liking it. After seeing this video I can see I wasn't off the mark about certain repeating storylines & underutilized characters. I'm not sure if I can call myself a Thundercats fan but I'll finish to the end which sounds interesting.

I myself never grew up in the 80s but I've seen the original Thundercats when it was re-ran on Toonami way back in the late 90s to the early 2000s, and I thought it was cool. I will say It's extremely flawed and corny. granted. The story lines are mostly weak, even to a point of in-coherency and complete absurdity, granted. There are no exceptional depths of characters, granted. However, for it's time, it's a cool show.
