Andy Eastwood demonstrates a beautiful banjo-uke based on the Ludwig design, expertly made by Phil Cartwright.
Excellent condition, hardly played since made in 2018. Extremely fine craftsmanship throughout, and a striking, ornate peghead.
Listed for sale on www.AndyEastwood.com/ukulelemarket.htm - June 2021.

Another beauty from Phil’s workshop! From the side I’d be fooled into thinking it was an original from the 20’s!

Thanks Andy! I’m looking to buy a similar uke as my first, and after umm-ing and ah-ing about whether or not to go for one with a resonator or not, I have a newbie question: Is it possible to simply remove the resonator and play this type of banjulele open backed?

Hi… it wouldn’t be very successful, they are designed to be held with then back in place, and of course the sound wouldn’t project as it should. If you don’t want a large resonator, the best bet would be a flat back, in the style of a Gibson UB2 or similar!

@@AndyEastwoodUK Cheers Andy - probably up to £250, but…! I have just bought a restored John Grey, looks like the chap knows what he’s doing so hopefully that will fit the bill. My thinking is that I’ll have the metal resonator plate for volume/punch, but can be removed for open back playing, and I’m handy enough to make a wooden resonator plate if I want to the something louder but warmer 🤷‍♂️

This is a great statement video because it proves one thing, it's the typical *Workman, poor, and and Blame, and not in that order BTW that shows when you've got the best uke Banjo player in the world he makes it sound as good as the real McCoy. The amount, and I think I'm a not alone ere, but £ you waste, I and I called it 'Chasing sound with the pound ", Bernard young wasn't exactly known for his array of chords and songs he performed, but he was spot on about new ukes, new Vellums, they need to settle and it can take months for any new uke, be it one of Phils, D Barnes etc to have their own distinctive sound. I've heard 2 Greenfield Abbotts as good as the real thing, but thanks Andy, I mean when the conventions start there should be a stage full of better players rather than empty wood polish cans 😁, I always wonder BTW, if Ludwig or Gibson ever made from old blueprints the LUDWIG Crown, which are about £1250 A Letter in Value now, and the Ubs,,,, somehow, I don't because of todays clarity in sound, and like Wine, those ukes got better with age. Great video m8
I wish I could change THIS fast! 🤣
