A Silent Movie!!! Its a nice looking spoon and it was interesting to see your spoon mule in action,The knife you have is something and very good, by the looks, of chopping the wood to a rough shape. Thanks

Good spoon! I also use those mechanical pencils a lot, they are great for accurate marking.

Wow, Harry. An impressive show of craftsmanship. No 3-D printers here! It's fitting that you used hawthorn, which has edible fruit & leaves. Tee

When carving convex curves wouldn't it be better to have the bevel facing down against the wood?

I made one similar for a friend who moaned that it was flat handled and he could not scoop stuff very easily..??? I made him a rather overblown scooped handled ladle thing that excited him a lot, he uses it every day. To each his own I suppose......!!! I like your clog knife thing, the kneecap dissection would make a good video....lol

Great video, would you then oil and harden it to help with wear and tear?? If so what products and process would you use?
@harryrogers8 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Chabbert If no one is allergic to nuts, walnut oil is good - I just use olive oil, though some people think that is not so good......I have not had it go rancid!

What is that cutting tool with the hook on the end called that pivots on and eyebolt.... More importantly, how do I get one!
@harryrogers9 жыл бұрын
BarnGeek Its a paroir knife, sometimes called a stock knife, and sometimes called a peg knife.......they all are in fact slightly different...but generically they are often loosely given these terms...they turn up on the second hand tool market from time to time....sometimes associated with sabotiers / clog makers or similar greenwood crafts.

Thank You! Now begins the search... I guess if nothing else I could always have a blacksmith make me one.
@harryrogers9 жыл бұрын
BarnGeek yes weld an old billhook blade to a rod and you have one.

I love the big knife blade. I think my dental hygienist has one of those.

Não Só Serradura Thanks - I thought it would be good to have a change and the noises of the tools and the sheep in the background convey more about craft that I cannot put into words! Regards Harry

Very nice job Harry. How many actual hours of carving?
@harryrogers9 жыл бұрын
Lenny F Hello Lenny - I took my time with this one and spent much of an afternoon, though I think I could do this a lot quicker with some more practise, and by cutting my blank a bit smaller next time......nice sunny afternoon with friends having a chat so no rush really!

Hey Harry. I've watched all your videos! This was another great video but...Wow! It almost hurt to watch. I cringed through most of the video. It was so neat to see that parior that reminded me of a paper cutter at work but it didn't look fun like using a small hatchet. Also, the spokeshave draw knife thingie felt like it was too big for the job. Anyways, great video but, just for me, painful!
@JohnHeisz9 жыл бұрын
I can't see anything to cringe about in this video at all. He clearly has a lot of experience doing this and handles the tools with confidence and expertise. Beginners often don't recognize that, and think it's dangerous.
