Carving Bigfoot

In this video, I'll show you how I carved Bigfoot from a piece of basswood. I'll talk about safety and the carving knives I used. And I'll talk about how I finished this caricature carving of Sasquatch. This is such a fun form of woodcarving. Lot's of fun, but you have to have patience. But mainly fun!
I used a 7" by 3" block of basswood. I used a Flexcut knife and Mora 120 knife. The video also shows the overall dimensions of the carving. It was finished with acrylic paints and an antiquing wax.

while this video is 3 years old Bigfoot is ageless. My 34 year old son wants me to make him a Bigfoot. So after looking at many carving videos and pictures I decided on yours. While many are very good I like the simplicity of yours. Thank you keeping this video and Bigfoot alive! By the way this the first I've seen your website and I appreciate your range of options as I too like to make spoons and scoops. I haven't tried the kuksa cup yet but looking forward to doing so. Enjoyed seeing it all come together, like the bigfoot detailing. It must take a long time all together, how long for something like this? Maybe when I can get some free time I'll try something like this out. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the comment! This did take me several hours to make. But the next one will probably go a lot smoother. And I might make it from a smaller block of wood. Some carvings don't take long at all. It just depends on how much detail you want to go for. Thanks for watching!

Looks awesome! I can’t wait to try this. I need to track down a big piece of Basswood that size. What hardware did you get that from?

Thanks for the comment! If you're asking where I got the Basswood, I got it from a wood supply store in Concord Georgia called the Wood Yard. They have great selections of wood and good prices.

This is so awesome! I use the same knives, got hooked on caricature carving from Doug Linker, and have gone through my share of bandaids. I learned to keep a little tube of superglue in my carving kit to quickly close up my skin.🤣 I was looking for a Bigfoot that didn’t require eyes and showed the toes as well. I did Doug Linkers Bigfoot, but I’m not a fan of the cartoon eyes he does and Doug didn’t carve the toes. His has a really good hunched look though, and I love the arm position where he’s holding a duck on a rope or a flower. Check it out! I’m going to try combining yours with his. Thanks!💕

I'm a big Doug Linker fan as well. Basically, I took his Hillbilly caricature (with no eyes) and applied it to my Bigfoot. I looked for Bigfoot cartoons and other carvings for ideas, but then I used those ideas to come up with this design. I would like to maybe explore some other Bigfoot designs in the future.
