Maserati Ghibli Trofeo or a BMW M5: Which are you choosing?

Love that italians are still doing their own thing and not getting to dragged into the race of numbers on paper. They usually know how to do suspension and handling :)

A drag and roll race between this and the other 4 door sedans in its class would be cool to see

That was a very insightful and fair review, Matt. I have owned 6 Maseratis, including the first edition Ghibli. They are just what you concluded, you can get better for your money but the Maserati has that ‘fun’ factor that makes them great to drive and sound glorious, putting a big smile on you face. 😊

That was my feeling with my Alfa Giulia. I never even bothered to look up the 0-60. It was more than quick enough and it felt amazing on the road. It’s a feeling I’ve definitely not gotten from the other European cars I’ve had

Let's take a moment to appreciate the analogue dials, physical buttons and the gear knob. I wish manufacturers stop listening to journalistis who are always pushing towards screens. At least for internal combustion engine cars, things should stay analogue and mechanical... I mean I wouldn't mind screens on an electric car.

Maserati are severely underrated. Everyone forgets they even exist but they do make great cars

The new Maserati Ghibli Trofeo looks so cool and the performance from the V8 is insane!

Love it. Will have it over the M5 - because it looks understated cool, its plenty of performance for 99% of daily use and its a masarati. Very refreshing to have a car that distances itself from the passenger car that wants to be a boy racer.

The best thing about Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is that if you wait a month it will be twice as cheap.

Really cool to see Mat have so much fun in a Maserati. Really surprised it handled aggressive cornering well and felt like a sports car. Still though, for the money, you’re definitely paying a premium for that trident logo and if overall performance is on your mind, the German competitors will blow this thing away.

Better than the competitors! Is true isn’t fast as german one’s but the quality of building and how great the luxury and sportivity are connected together i think is the best looking car from outside and driving it!

It definitely looks more than "a bit dated". Having said that, it's preferable to the horror that's the new 5 series.

You can always tell in the comments that 90% of the people who hate the Ghibli, never sat in one, let alone driven one. Saying the interior is dated, while Mercedes, Audi and BMW (which is what this is often compared to) still have cars to date with black plastic iPads sticking from the top of the dash, for example. The design of this, exterior wise, is so different as well. It really catches your eye. Sure, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but drive this and it'll get noticed more than a BMW 5 series. Simple reason for it is that the BMW 5 looks like an elongated BMW 3 and that looks like any other sedan. The charm of this car comes by seeing it, driving it. Trust me. I hated the interior at first, then I drove one and it somehow just comes together. I've driven BMWs and Mercedes, and never got that same feeling.

The Italians already know you shouldn't change gear on a bend, hence the fixed shifter paddles. Come on Matt, you should know this already!

On paper it may not match up w the Germans, but in the looks and sound department, it scores big points. And the interior is pure Italian and smells great.

If you don’t track the car more then 1 or 2 times a year, this is a great car! Beter on road performance then the big 3 because of the extra comfort

Worth noting that it looked quite warm at time of filming so performance will be blunted by a few tenths. Silly expensive in the UK - might be worth a limited warranty purchase after 2-3 years and massive depreciation.

I owned a 2018 Ghibli SQ4 for a couple of years, than I moved to a GranTurismo MC and finally I upgraded to a Ferrari Cali 30. I had great experience with all three of them, even if the Ghibli was not as good in the interior materials and less exciting in driving.

Maserati is that trophy wife. The car looks amazing, sounds amazing, but that’s where it ends. She’ll still put a smile on your face when you go at it though 😏

Actually in one of your videos the M5 did 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.

The M, AMG, RS, Q4, F, GTS and Turbo trims would be preferable to this Trofeo. Aside from that, great 👍

I ran the 6cylinder for a year, it was in no way as fast or sophisticated as my BMW 5 but I always had a smile on my face when looking or driving it....left field choice very comfortable and not German my Wife absolutely loved it

This a Beautiful car and that’s the best looking engine out of all of its competitors but it’s only RWD and doesn’t quite giddy up as quick as the competition but very stunning machine.

I'd spend more and get the Maserati Levante Trofeo it is awesome!!! orchestral, symphony magical exhaust engine sounds!!! so too is the updated 2023 Quattroporte Trofeo! The last of the combustion engine V8, before it's replaced by hybrid/electric, get one while you can!

German powerful saloons are all about drama. Maseratis are all about speed, power but luxury too. Kind of like Aston Martin compared to a Lamborghini.

Nah man. BMW M5, whichever generation it is, still would be my pick over Ghibli Trofeo or any other non hyper car Maserati, maybe would put Maserati Quattroporte and BMW M5 e61 on par regarding interest, but that's as close as it gets for me.
