Does the new Range Rover Sport SV have what it takes to bring down the Range Rover Sport SVR?
Well, we’re about to find out as they face off over the quarter mile!
So let’s check out the stats. Starting with the new Range Rover Sport SV, it’s powered by a BMW 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine (the same engine from the M5 CS, no less!) that can produce 635hp and 750Nm. It sends this power to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at 2,500kg. If you want to pick one up today, it’ll cost you around £165,000.
Alongside it, we have the SVR. It’s packing a 5-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet which can produce 575hp and 700Nm. It’s also equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive, but it’s a bit lighter than the SV, tipping the scales at 2,310kg. When new, the SVR would set you back around £100,000.
So the new SV has more power, but it’s also heavier! Will the weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

You can notice the chassis improvements during the Roll Race where the old Range Rover is squatting heavily while the new one one is rather stable! Great Video as always!!

Who uses "launch control" in the real world? I wish they would stop using something that is not going to be used in reality. Sam nailed it when he said that up to 100 mph the Supercharger was quickest. That is real-world use, at least in the UK.

The new SVR is definitely better but best to buy a second hand one at £80,000 as you will need the other £80k for insurance. Beautiful vehicle, if only you could keep it long enough to even enjoy driving it.

Would love to see this. Almost bought a Cupra Ateca but went for the Tiguan R instead, Ateca feels more cheap/basic and dated inside and slightly less roomy but I imagine that makes it lighter, though the Tiguan has more power and Torque so would be interesting

The SVR was in dynamic setting when doing the 50mph rolling race while the SV was in normal so the throttle response was better in the SVR

Amazing video Matt!! One mistake all reviewers make is that the new SV uses BMW M5 CS which is not true.. The true fact is, it uses the S68 engine used in the 2024 bmw X5m/x6m comp LCI, which had the mild hybrid system I would love to see a comparison between the SV and the X5M comp LCI🙏

I just wish JLR had tuned the exhaust to sound a bit more rumbly than they did, but the S63 and S68 have always sounded a bit like a 4-cylinder more than a V8. At least they make up for it in outright power.

Great video! We just did a comparrison video but wasnt able to do drag race unfortunately. Take launch control out of it and there really isnt much difference. For the extra cost, this really should out perform the SVR better than it does.

in the rolling race, the SVR was in the dynamic mode setting. It is significantly faster and responsive in the gearbox than the comfort setting from my experience. The sport mode on the gear selector only lets it rev higher, but dynamic mode definitely puts down power faster with the torque, gearbox ect.

So I’ve had the old SVR and I got my SV in January. It’s a better technical drive, but the SVR is leaps and bounds ahead from a driving pleasure and emotive standpoint. If you’re playing top trumps the new one is better, but I think a lot of people will be disappointed when they get their hands on the none limited models when they come through. Especially at the price point it’s at.

The suspension upgrade in the new SV definitely shows. The old car squats a lot under heavy acceleration and almost kisses the ground under hard braking. It's two thumbs up from me for the new RR Sport SV 👍🏾👍🏾🙂
