I’ve just test driven the 2016 1.4 turbo elite today and it’s the best car I’ve looked at. So much bang for your buck! Heated seats front and back, heated steering wheel. Full leather. Sat nav. Relatively quick with good mpg… the list goes on. I was so impressed that I’ve put a deposit on it and pick it up next week!

Wow Car prices are exploding, Mat says base Astra was £15k, and don't forget he also says that on Av CW can get you £2.5 k off that. This was produced 2016, base Astra (ICE not electric, so comparable) is now £23.8, Now working on £15.5 thats a 54% increase in 6 years, soon cars will be out of the price range of people with normal jobs.

For about £90 you can get a second boot floor for you’re Astra from Vauxhall, adds storage boxes to the bottom of the boot and creates a second floor removing the lip but leaving a generous amount of space for shopping and luggage etc. Takes literally 5 minutes to fit it.

I've seen astra at local dealer, and it looks a bit expansive even in middle trims. You can have full led lights etc. but there isn't light in front glowebox and no air vents for rear passangers, this is step backward to previous model which had those features, so for me it was like they made a new car as cheap as possible and just added lots of new toys but forget about basic ones.

“There’s no false floor” you can order one for about £100 from Vauxhall either with the spare wheel or on its own with handy storage compartments. There is a rear arm rest on elite Nav models. Also on Elite Navs both the front and rear seats are heated and there’s USB charging ports in the rear as well as the front.

Noticed mention of that being 160hp, and goes well, surprised it's not the 1.6 turbo rsv (holden) we got here in new zealand, with 147 kw (197hp). Bought my last of the holden run out /sell off cars new in 2020(red one), at approx 33% off original price, love its grin factor when booted hard. Averages around 7lts/100kms for most of my driving (40 mpg), and only rarely gets down to claimed 6.3/100 (44mpg).

*DON'T BUY THE DIESEL MANUAL BOX VERSION - There is a known defect with the clutch master cylinder and your clutch pedal *will* fall to the floor over time** 9 months ago we bought a 16 plate astra diesel, Elite trim level.. My BF and I have been driving Astras for 25 years and they have been outstanding, reliable and a good all-round car to have. But the Astra K will be our last. There is a known manufacturing defect with the diesel manual box version where the clutch pedal will go to the floor and not come back up. Returned to the dealership to replace the clutch master cylinder and elbow and went alright for a few weeks...then the clutch pedal went to the floor again. Not good news when you're in the middle of busy traffic. Unreliable, we are disappointed with Vauxhall with how they dealt with this known problem, and it took weeks for the garage to sort it out. Also, whenever you started the engine, it always sounded rough and clunky and just terrifying to hear. All this and the car had less than 50k on the clock. We've just sold it and bought our first Ford. Brilliant cars.

The best Astra ever, but I cannot say the same about their warranty. I bought the intelligent lights, which are great when they work, and that's part of the problem I've been going through for some six months now! The lights will start and stop working whenever they "want". Next time I buy a car, I don't think it'll be a european one.

I’ve owned a 2015 Corsa 1.0T 5dr 85kW, was the heaviest in its class but was very energetic to carry its own weight and 5 people and the boot full going over inclines smoothly, I wish I could say the same about the lazy Kia Rio and i20. Also was smooth and quiet with loads of features. I loaded all optional extras such as blind spot monitor imagine that in thin segment and in 2015 and auto parking assist, reverse and parallel parking I loved it and called it “my attention seeker🤪” and many other features such as auto stop start, hill start assist which were I think were std features. Big value

BE CAREFUL DONT BUY THE ASTRA 2016 onwards. Poor engine design which causing them to have weak pistons that can go at any point. Costing thousands to replace. Not sure if they’ve fixed this but my 66 plate 1.4 turbo elite has this issue now. They should have recalled all cars and replaced these with the stronger pistons they now have. Mines been fully serviced every 6 months and done less than 28k miles. I bought it used 9 months ago and because it’s 4 years old it’s out of manufacturers warranty. I’m stuck on what to do to be honest. Just thought I’d warn you all so you don’t get fucked over like me. Still waiting for Vauxhall to come back to me but not holding out any hope they will take responsibility.

Vauxhall are now stuffing a 197bhp engine into the Astra and there are loads for sale on Auto Trader, pre reg delivery miles for under 16k! I know Vauxhall is unfashionable, but thats a lot of power for the money. 0-60 in 6 and half secs for half the price of a Golf GTI !

I would agree with that, £16k for 200bhp, you can't go wrong with that, only downside is fuel consumption is pretty horrendous, a friend has one, he averages 20-22 mpg, unless on a long motorway run, where it's slightly better. Though I agree, if you want a reasonably purchase priced power/acceleration, 1.6t is not a bad bet whatsoever.

I’m 10 days and 1000 miles into my 1.6t Elite Astra and it’s absolutely brilliant. Replaced my 15 plate Focus ST and I have absolutely no regrets. Just eats up a country A/B road and given you get upgraded audio system, front/rear heated seats as standard it’s a bargain. The engine has a lovely growl at low revs.

It gets worse over time, My car has only done 14,000 miles, When i start my car people turn and look. Asked the dealer to guarantee my timming chain against failure for 100,000 miles.. he can't....50,000 miles ... he can't, He only tried to sell me a warranty as my 3 years warranty is due to expire.

The most confusing car with too many engines to chose and all are not that good. Torsion beam primitive suspension in the rear, and no value after just 3 years. Mazda 3, Corolla, and Civic offer much that makes sense with 2 or 3 engines in 2019 and they are all damn reliable. Less option of engines means better trusty engines. For instance, Corolla 1.8L was used since the 1980s and constantly improving to perfection.

Does the new range use the same hyperstrut suspension set up of the GTC? I own a gtc 165, and it drives great, I mean really good, quick enough loads of torque (350nm), and corners really flat, but isn't to stiff to enjoy the wife. It is let down only by is dated dashboard.

In Belgium it's possible to get it with an adjustable load floor in the boot. In essence I think they just wanted to make it as big/deep as possible while the high load lip in all newer models is due to compatibility engineering. They want to make the bumper cross members higher so it wouldn't go under an SUV in case of a crash. Also, the big bumpers are made of plastic which is cheaper to produce and Insurance companies like it better because they get less parking dents repair bills. That's another reason why newer models seem to have high loading sills at the boot. Finally, while development used to be focused on the hatchback or standard model, nowadays some manufacturers want to sell more estate cars which drives them to invest more in the estate version, especially on practicality innovations.

My Astra k has done 9759 miles it has a knocking noise from the front when driving, when pulling away there is a delay of 1 second before power kicks in, anti collision control always alerts on everything, when in second gear and you take your foot of the gas the car just keep driving with a spike in the revs. and the noise from the chain is louder than the land rovers and it's 17 years old. Onstar does not work in remote areas of the Scottish highlands. Vauxhall have booked the car in for 4 days to have the car repaired under warrenty.

Central LCD screen should be adjustable, so you could turn it towards you when you drive. Side windows are strangely small, not making a good impression, it's a bit claustrophobic inside. From the outside car looks really nice, event from the front.
