Say what you will about the credits of famous actresses. Margaret Hamilton earned hers with her portrayal of the witch in The Wizard of Oz, overshadowed of course by Judy Garland. However, Ms. Hamilton in this movie, professes the highest example of an entertainer that I have EVER witnessed in Hollywood's history! She has, thru these many years, so underestimated, that she truly belongs among the greatest!!! May she rest in peace as she has left an indelible mark in Hollywood!!! Thanks for sharing this reply with me. I hope you will agree with this very late assessment of an icon that shall remain in memory forever!!

My doctors are great. They face me and we have a conversation, they listen and never look at their watches. I think we had a couple of "better living through science!" generations, but that trend has definitely started to fade out, thank God.

Its just that for certain ones, my GP for instance, he sold his practice to a big corporation like so many doctors are being forced to do today because of all the paperwork both government and insurance. He is still excellent. Its GETTING to him that's the problem You deal with staff who are not medically minded but corporate minded and never bear in mind they are dealing with sick people. They max out the appointments for profit so if you have an emergent need, you cannot get in. Case in point. I caught a breakthrough case of Covid last week. I have numerous preexisting conditions so I called my GP. The ignorant corporate staff member said 'if you have Covid they DO recommended you come in and be seen. The next available is January 23rd!' I said 'my good woman, one of TWO things will happen by then. I will either be better, or I will be dead!' She then said 'then we recommended you go to the emergency room.' I said 'so instead of spending fifteen dollars for a copay for my doctor, I can spend three hundred dollars in deductibles for the emergency room to get the exact same advice. Lovely.'

A very high moment in the film to me especially bc it’s what we are experiencing now, 2022, before & after. Are going to continue to repeating ourselves forever?

He was so versatile and great in every genre - it's insane that he never won an Oscar.

Actually this movie is based on a play by Curt Goetz and the play had a far better ending and also the Cary Grant movie has a very goog beginning, the one of Goetz is even better, in the Goetz version Praetorios and his wife die in a car accident (and yes, Curt Goetz can make even this funny in a nonoffensive way!), Too bad Grant did not another Goetz movie, one of his other plays "Hokuspokus" is even better.

Oh my gosh, I was leaving this comment to thank you for educating us about Mankiewicz. Then you mention Wilkes-Barre PA I was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre. There was a time in Wilkes-Barre’s history where it was wonderful to live there. I loved growing up in that old town. There were a lot of kind people. I have the sweetest memories of adults (strangers actually) being kind to me. When I was around five years old. I would get the bus at the corner where the firehouse was. And I remember there was this one man and he used to hold me up in his arms and we would watch out the window for the bus to come so I wouldn’t have to be outside cold all by myself. What a sweet man! My father wasn’t around & that man made me feel so special. It was loving and innocent and pure. It’s sad to think today that the same situation. they’d be so worried about the guy being a perv. Sadly you do need to be that way, so super careful, but I believe because of the way I am that there are still some good kind adults that love children and it’s natural for them to be loving and kind to kids in general. Classic b & w movies use to be aired for free on regular TV on Saturday and Sunday nights by Frank Avruch The Great Entertainment that show ran for almost 2 decades on Boston's WCVB-TV, channel 5. we also had the Movie Loft channel WSBK-TV channel 38 and no extra loud shocking & unrelated interruptions like there is on yt.

Technology dominates today. No talent. No better stories to inspire all family members.

And oddly, it was not well received when it came out! I really think this is a fine movie!

The COCOONs and BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED are great bookends for his life in film.

One of my favorite Cary Grant movies, also!

He was a good actor for any time, it just then. He's withstood the test of time. It was a combination of talent plus good choices of manuscripts.

Well, the dog's reaction to a man very much maligned & persecuted shouldn't be lost either - remember he described the dog as unhappy & frightened before. He changed because the human understood & gave him stability & rewarded the man with his trust & loyalty - just as Dr. Pretorious did for him.

There still actually are physicians who care for rhe whole person and give them the time needed. I worked for one who spent one day each week in a very poor, rural community. He wasn't Christian, but he'd say that his pro bono cases out there were "AFJ," all for jesus. I discovered he made actual house calls one day in our city, for a fragile older lady with no social support system.

@@catherinelw9365 The German movie was produced in 1950! It was a bit of a scandal in those times, even in Europe, mentioning "abortion" and unmarried mothers. In the American movie they didn't mention it directly. Only when the nurse said"She knew what she was doing, she is old enough" and he got angry at her! If you google "Dr.med . Hiob Prätorius," German movie, it is possible watching it on youtube, I suppose!

The opening titles for this film clearly indicate that the screenplay was written by the director, based on the stage play by Curt Goetz. So its a play adapted for film and the "System" at the time didn't care if different production companies from different countries did the same IP. In some ways, there's cultural artifacts which probably won't translate well directly. This is also why there were so many foreign films being "rebooted" in 1960s Hollywood.
