A young man battling with marriage, epilepsy and depression. God rest his soul. He was an amazing talent. The goth scene would of never of existed if it wasn't for Joy Division and their dark lyrics. Ian was a poet in his early education, but the rest of the band thought his lyrics were about common day matters... His lyrics were actually about his suffering as a human being. It is this honesty expressed in his music that he shall never be forgotten.

Goths choose to be Goths;what he was he couldn't escape.Marriage just sort-of happened(...without the pregnancy?).Epilepsy:don't forget that he had a client who died as a direct result of it - being 'sensitive',he would have fixated over this.More-so having been diagnosed as epilectic. As a severe manic depressive who - as I type this - am aware of the tub next to my bedside which contains close-on six hundred pills and one scalpel - I am alive to the fact that he didn't stand a chance.

Epilepsy often suddenly occurs as it did with my brother. One day after climbing a mountain in winter, he had his first attack. Placed him in the recovery position but he smashed his new watch. It was very upsetting to see this but now he is coping well with medication that has fewer side effects. Wish that Ian had held on and survived what is an awful condition to have.

Ian Curtis performed like he was walking a razor's edge for balance between embracing the hidden Shadow side of his deep unconsciousness and not allowing it to possess him completely and take control. The intense energy of the band is the confluence of the unleashed libido of the band members who at that age were experiencing the hurricane hormones and testosterone tornadoes that continually flooded their bloodstreams and engulfed their brains.

I'm 19 and I was diagnosed with epilepsy last year. Seeing that Ian fought the same condition I have was a terrifying thought at first, but it's oddly turned around and helped me to cope-- the best music being the kind that reminds you that you aren't alone is only a cliche because it's true. I had listened to this song a million times before, but it's taken on a new meaning to me now and become one of the songs closest to my heart. Rest in peace, Ian Curtis. If only you knew your impact.

Three things I have to say about this clip: 1. Stephen Morris had incredible stamina. If I tried to play a drum part like that, I'd get cramps. 2. I love the way Bernard and Peter interact with each other and trade off on playing the main riff towards the end. 3. Ian looks so sad. I can't understand how anybody could watch this and think that he's feeling normal. No. You can tell he's not okay just by looking at him.

it's sad that there was so much anger between hooky and bernard.. they are so talented. Hooky said without him it's not new order, that is true, just as the same way it wouldn't be new order without bernard or morris and joy division wasn't JD without Ian. They all needed each other and just sucks they pissed it away fighting all these years when they should have come together, but at least they made some great energetic timeless music between JD and NO.

I'm sure there are other singers with the same kind of energy out there, but I haven't seen them yet. To assume there is only one is just gatekeeping; there are millions of musicians, you never know. One singer I can think of with a similar energy is the lead singer of Swans. There's the live performance of "Beautiful Child". I didn't see similar dancing and the vocals are louder, but the energy I felt watching it was the same I felt watching the performance of "She's Lost Control".

Mr Wyeth said: “It was as though George Harrison and Ringo Starr had got together at George’s house one Friday night and had acted together to divest Paul McCartney of his shareholding in the Beatles, and didn’t tell Yoko about it either.” New Order Ltd has generated £7.8m income over four years, the court heard. Curtis is to music what Kafka is to literature. Coming from nowhere, without all this education, money, family backround and security. Creating from scratch some of the most impressive works of art ever. I have a lot of respect for musicians and I wouldn't want to live in a world without technical impressive musicians like Coltrane, James Jamerson, Hendrix etc., but what is so special about Joy Division is that none of them was an educated musician, they all just started to become musicians as tweens and after just 2 or 3 years they came up with something like that. That's punk in the best sense of the word. Kafka and Curtis even had similar jobs. She's Lost Control is about one of Curtis' "clients" that had epilepsy and Curtis wrote this song about her before his epilepsy became evident.

His epileptic seizures were the worst kind. He was having 3 to 4 seizures a week. They disabled him. He killed himself the night before his band was to tour in the USA. He knew he couldn't tour health wise, but did not want to let his band down. A few years ago a Dr. looked at his prescriptions and the side effects were sever depression and that lead to his suicide. His seizures were getting worse by the day. They were Longer and more often. Every time the Dr.s gave him a new medicine he was hopeful his symptoms would get better. But they never did. He was depressed because he knew he was slowly dying. The lights and music on stage often caused him to have seizures, these seizures would debilitate him for days.

This isn't a common condition but there are some people around who are sunlight sensitive (though I can't say their hands swell up too.) As if that wasn't enough, he died the same day Mt. St Helens blew up; he died early in the morning before sunrise but it was after the birds woke up so maybe he died 7 - 8 hours before Mt. St Helens exploded and sent so much volcanic ash 40 miles away that towns had to sweep it up for weeks. 153 thumbs up: Seven of the disciples-Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, the sons of Zebedee, and two others decided to go fishing one evening after the Resurrection of Jesus, but caught nothing that night. Early the next morning, Jesus (whom they had not recognised) called out to them from the shore: Friends, haven't you any fish?" When they reply "No", Jesus responds: "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some".After doing so, "they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish". Realising the identity of their advisor, the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" at which Peter jumped into the water to meet him, while the remaining disciples followed in the boat, towing the net, which proved to be full of 153 large fish :) /babyJesus from Sweden

And she gave away the secrets of her past, And said I've lost control again, And a voice that told her when and where to act, She said I've lost control again. And she turned around and took me by the hand and said, I've lost control again. And how I'll never know just why or understand, She said I've lost control again. And she screamed out kicking on her side and said, I've lost control again. And seized up on the floor, I thought she'd die. She said I've lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control. Well I had to 'phone her friend to state my case, And say she's lost control again. And she showed up all the errors and mistakes, And said I've lost control again. But she expressed herself in many different ways, Until she lost control again. And walked upon the edge of no escape, And laughed I've lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control.

fizro yeah it’s weird. He didn’t really need to, but he chose to play using all bar chords where the finger positions were the same the whole time. It probably would have made more sense to like a more localized area for those chores but he just chose to slide up and down the neck lol. He plays in a weird way alright. Looks completely different to the rest of the band when they perform.

Ian Curtis' dancing has always been tremendously upsetting to me and yet intensely captivating and electrifying. I've always seen so much anguish in his movements. He's a completely unique frontman, and a truly tragic story. I can only imagine the countless hours so many of us would have spent listening to more of their music. RIP.

Ian Curtis is the only person who can dance like this and still look cool. Not even sure I would call this dancing but rather a physical expression of raw emotion.

This song for 1979, sounds way ahead of its time. The guitar chords that Bernard plays sound very punky.....I love it. I admire Joy Division and New Order and want to study their musical structures so that one day, I can be in an Alternative Band since I play bass guitar.

It's been a yearly routine for me to watched Eraserhead for free. The date on it if I can recall was 8 years ago, then youtube just deleted it. I've been dreading that moment for over a year now. Get this video of music history for your own collection, you might not see this in the near future.

@@leonardocarneiro9520 I see what you mean but there of there time they grew up in 1960s and 1970s in the north of England which was a pretty bleak place at the time with huge unemployment so that must reflect in there music but I think like all great bands they transcend time and make music you can relate to regardless of when it was made

Ian, I know you will never read this but I know someone out there like you might. I’m saying this to myself, as much as to someone else. Please, PLEASE do not hurt yourself. These feelings will pass. I know they do because I have been through it, so many times. Reach out to anyone, ANYONE, even me. I know this video is so wonderful and Ian was in so much pain and what he went through is horrendous. But please believe You’re going to be okay. You really are. You are. Breathe. Think about everything you have been through. You are here to tell people about it. Take heart dearest one. You’re going to be okay. I am sending you a hug even though I don’t know you. Be you. Please always be you. You’re perfect as you are xxx

@@bigoshify I think people have suggested that his movements on stage are reminiscent to that of an epileptic fit, which is interesting because he started dancing that way on stage way before he was diagnosed with epilepsy. His dancing sometimes escalated into an onstage epileptic fit, in which case they would have to stop the show.
