In today's video I'll be covering the details of one of the most sought after combat knives of the 20th century. This is the Case V-42 Stiletto, a knife so famous it's adorned the crests of multiple SF groups. Only 3000 of these amazing knives are thought to have been produced, with far less surviving to present day. V-42's went almost exclusively to members of the elite First Special Service Force (also known as The Devil's Brigade), with a few others issued to special groups in the Navy, Marine, and Army paratroopers. Thanks so much for watching

Glad to have just discovered your channel while I was trying to find some info on original MACV SOG knives; very cool V-42 video too! I've recently retired from Special Forces after 35 years and the WWII V-42 is one of the knives on my bucket list to get someday. I did manage to pick up one of the newer Case V-42's from the Special Forces Association Chapter 28 folks; it's a little different than the ones in public distribution, sporting a serial number, however, it's not an original. One day maybe! Nevertheless, awesome channel; thanks!

Compared to the Fairburn Sykes dagger, which is the better knife overall?
@RexApplegate

@@r.c.reasor4807 A real original V-42 has a deep hollow grind making it good at stabbing and slicing. All have thumb swell and fat guard to safely thrust really hard and skull crusher pommel useable for a strike as well as being flared wide enough to aid in retention. They are quite intentionally no expense spared classy knives when done to true original specs. The F/S is no slouch, but essentially is only designed with ease of production, ease of concealment and efficient stabbing in mind. Not in the same league.

This is one of only 2 good YT videos on the V-42, and hands down the best. Much appreciated. I can't justify the expense of a real one, so I ended up getting a Hanwei and heavily studying photos of originals so I could mimick original specs with my own build as well as i could in my home shop. Since absolutely nobody has built them right post war, my one suggestion/request, being that you're clearly a gracious guardian of the history, is that you have yours scanned and turned into a 3D printer ready file so near anyone can get access to a legit facsimile of a clean real one for their reference collections.

This is a knife I have lusted for 40 years. I heard that soldiers were issued this, just for fighting, and a more general use knife, like a kbar. What a beauty.

I’m getting a modern version design by Les George and manufactured by Spartan blades. I greatly appreciate its military heritage, it’s addition to our military warrior culture. You are very fortunate to have an original in your collection.

Great video, my congratulations on finding such a mint specimen. The v-42 is undoubtedly one of the pinnacles of fighting knife collecting. Such great history. I hope in the future you are able to do videos on other specialized rare ww2 knives. Soe and oss blades would be particularly cool. 👍

I have a Boker replica of the V-42 complete with replica sheath. I have never handled a true V-42 , but the balance of the replica is awesome. It's a beautiful knife.

Great video, great knife. Have used the fairbirn sykes pattern for decades. This is a spin off for sure with some refinements, and some liabilities. First carried a primitive pattern in Vietnam in the M3. Still do! Not as refined but robust enough to get the job done. I'm not a collector, and obviously you wouldn't deploy a collector item of that quality in actual combat, so you go for the next best thing in current production. You deploy what works, refine it as needed in the field. Like every gun, every knfe is mission sensitive. They are tools placed in the hands of the weapon which is you. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Great work on this one, certainly an interesting blade and the history behind it(which I'm hoping will be even better with the actual history of this exact one) Also like how it was based on the FS which was considered the best in it's own day, you'd have thought after millennia of putting sharp bits of metal in people a perfect one would have been made already, I mean even firearms are only advancing with optics now instead of anything else.

Great comment, I was actually amazed once I dug deeper into the design characteristics of this knife. The F/S was a perfect base to build off of with slight tweaks made to make this thing as deadly as possible. Kind of insane what ends up coming together when you're designing for one express purpose. Cheers!

@@GentryGallery Yeah exactly, all of our knowledge at that time came down to each of those blades. And I'd say even now with bayonets and the like going out of fashion and them being half and half bayonet and utility tool that we have some nicer blades than then. Wonder where it'll go in to the future.

I just bought a Boker V42 reproduction. I have German made Bokers but when I received this one it came in a standard Boker box but unfortunately the German made knife I was expecting was made in China not Solingen Germany, it still seems well made but I was very disappointed when I saw that label.
